September Hatch-A-Long!

yesterday i candled again and one egg that had a baby that was quite vigorous in it moving when i candled it before was no longer moving and another had a blood ring so i think they both perished. very sad...i know that since they are shipped eggs this can happen but i just want every baby possible to hatch and it look as i've lost 2 and hatch day is 7 days away for 22 of the eggs which includes these two that most likely dead and then the other 16 should hatch two days later on the 15th....have not tossed the two yet as the one could just decided not to move when i candled..i've had chicks do that before when i candled them and they hatched out just fine.  and i know the one that seem to have a blood ring is more then likely dead but i leaveit till lockdown unless it starts to stink oe something like that
Yep, it stinks how they are going along fine and just die :( I tossed an Appenzeller Spitzhauben egg tonight. I had already marke it with a "?" and now there was definitely no life just black free floating blobs and runny yolk.

it is just too cool to watch these things sit and jiggle. its eggciting.. hoping by monday to have my own fuzzy butts..

AND A BIG CONGRATS TOO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HAD HATCHES.
AND A BIG IM SORRY TO THOSE WHOS EGGS & CHICKS DIDNT MAKE IT.

this is my first try in homemade bators so wish me luck so far 25 of my orignal sept 9th hatch (36 eggs) have made it to lockdown day.

Good luck!! It's my first time with a homemade bator too! My light has just started a constant flickering instead of switching on and off. The bulb seems to be working fine. Is it my thermostat causing this?

not sure might want to have a backup bulb handy and keep a eye on the temps
.. mine hasnt done that but my thermostat sucks.(way too much play in highs and lows) but i did have a bulb blow on day 14 and i think it might have killed/hurt my hatch. i know i had 1 dead tonight when i candled (and devopment was stopped about day 14) so i hope all my other wigglers wernt hurt too much. the temp drop wasnt too major (since i hade 2 lights) but it might delay the ones that were on that side. crossing my fingers till there white that i get a few to hatch...

So far 3 Mille Flers, 4 Orpingtons (1 beautiful silver), 7 mixed bantams. One half way zipped, two internal pips and a few more eggs left. All but one seem healthy. Gonzo is weak and tired. His eyes aren't quite right. They only open a little on the top. Anyone else ever have a chick like this? How did it do?

Here are some of my new chickies on the way to the brooder. After they hatched, they jumped into the basket. They are so cute.

Update on Pink. She was the one with her feet over her wings. She seems to be doing ok but walks on her elbows. She hangs out with me a lot. We had pedicures tonight. Pink of course.

I put my eggs on lockdown Wednesday. They r due to hatch either tomorrow or Sunday depending on if u count the 1st day. Lol I'm thinking hmmm. Shouldn't they be moving around?? I have them all in the center together, does that matter? I'm so nervous! I candled at day 16/17 and saw movement in most.

The first 24 hours is a day! Mine started at 7:45 AM, so my days are 7:30 am to 7:30 am. Good luck and be sure to post pics!!

Mine go into lockdown on Saturday. I'm just excited. It's finally getting closer! This is my first hatch. By Tuesday, I'll be worried like everyone else around here, I'm sure!

Ohhhhh the decisions that had to be made along the way! I'm gonna write a post about all this one day!

I LOVE this site. I just can not get bored here, there is so much to read, so many pictures to look at! I don't even wanna go to bed. If my husband only knew the ideas brewing in my head right now! lol!

Lol. IKR! My boyfriend says I'm obsessed with chickens cause I'm always reading stuff in here and telling him about it. He thinks I've lost my mind, but so much to learn! This is my 1st hatch too!!! I sure hope they make it! They're just mutts, but I bet they'll be adorable!!
