September Hatch-A-Long!

Omg! So I got a super good flashlight today and just went out to my nest of 8 copper marans eggs under my broody and OMG! I CAN SEE THEM DANCING! WHOOOHOOOO! this is my first hatch ever and boy am I sure happy! They look so happy bobbing and dancing around in there! I can't see into the Black marans just the Blues.

I'd like to know what kind of flashlight too! If you can see inside a marans egg with it I want one!

I think its an Inova. I got it from my uncles stuff when he passed in November. It takes lithium camera batterys, 123 something. I will take a closer look when I get home!

I have 7 one week old mutt chicks. Dad is EE roo. Moms could be BR, NH, BA, BSL, EE, SLW. I noticed today some of chicks legs are developing a green tint. Also some have stripes like a chipmunk. Others are deep brown, black and brown and one yellow. All have fuzzy cheeks. I am just wondering if the green legs are OK? All are active, healthy, and eat and drink well. Am I just a worry wort? None of my big chickens that these eggs are from have green legs. I know they are mutts though, so I am just not sure.

Green legs are typical of EEs due to crossing birds with yellow legs to those with slate colored legs. ;) I'm guessing since you say none of the parents have green that the roo must have the dark legs and the mothers are most likely yellow legged.

Oh I see. Thanks a lot. Only 2 are showing green legs right now. And dad does have dark grey legs. So I can assume these green leg chicks are from my hens with yellow legs? Narrow down the breeds a bit.

More than likely yes.

Maybe when they feather out you can get a better idea of who the mama's are.
