September Hatch-A-Long!

Okay. :)
I have some Isbars in there that I've been wanting for awhile (and spent the most on than I have any other hatching eggs from ebay), fingers crossed it's a good hatch!!!
There's some blue marans in there too.
I can't wait to see pictures of your chicks. I spent more on Isbar eggs from Ebay too. I started with 7 and I only have 3 left alive and their hatch date isn't until the13th. But I now know of someone about 2 hours away that I can buy some from if they don't hatch. Who did you get yours from? I got mine from countrylady2825 in Louisiana. She was the closest. I've heard horserider987 is good I think she is in Texas.

I have 2 Mille Fleur D'uccle, 2 mixed bantam and 2 Black/lavender Orpington pips. Their hatch date is tomorrow. Go, chickies, go!!!

Meet Tiny and Godzilla.

Tiny is a OEGB and Godzilla a RIR x. 'Zilla likes to eat Tiny's toes but Tiny likes to trip him and peck at his eyes so its fair. lol As long as no real damage is done.

i have 2 chicks :)
one i noticed today around 3 was popping a hole. hes out. he shoudlnt be out. his shell is bleeding and hes got yolk still...

ughghghg

the other is sleeping right now and has a bit of yolk out- like the end of a pencil.

gosh darn it on the first one.. grrr..

can i do anything??

Hi everyone!

I've got a hatching question--
I'm 24 hours into lockdown and my humidity dropped to 40%
Do I open it up real quick to throw in a wet paper towel to get it back up or just leave it how it is?
If you have no pips, you should definately do something to get the humidity up to as close to 75% as you can. If the humidity is that low when they pip, they could shrink wrap anyway.

I dont think there is anything you can do. I had a couple do that from my last hatch and they just drug it around til it eventually fell off and the are doing great.

A tip I found works great for candling blue eggs:

Use your iphone/ipod's flashlight app! I couldn't find a bright enough light in my
house for my Ameraucana eggs, but my ipod's flashlight app works the best so far!!!

Temps dropped lastnight to 93.8 but humidity was still 73% im beginning to wonder if its the new digital thermometer? ? The old one I thought was broken still showed movement but not as low as 93.8 ...... any chance the eggs are still good? Its at 101 and holding?

They should be fine. Mine's gone lower than that and lived.

Question for those of you that dry incubate what do you want the humidity to be at what range? This is only my second hatch and I have 48 eggs in there and I want to make sure what I'm doing is correct because I have researched it and can not find a definite answer so what has worked for you guys?

I'm in southern OH but I think your specific incubator makes more difference than where you are. Dry incubating is working best for me in a small Brinsea Mini, and a bigger wonky homemade styro-cooler-bator. Humidity 25-40, preferably around 30, then bumped to 50-60 at lockdown. When I tried 50/70 before, I got zero to hatch. You might have to play around with it a couple times to see what works best for your incubator.

Don't worry too much about opening it quickly for emergencies. Toss a wet cloth or small cup of water (with rocks or something to keep babies from drowning) in to raise it a bit.

My only chick died. :hit
Oh no. :( So sorry!
Too cute!!

Agreed, not much you can do yourself. Try keeping him separated from any others so they don't wreak havoc on the sensitive bits. Maybe try putting him in a cup, with the shell if he's still attached, or something so he can't move around much until it's fully absorbed.
