September Hatch-A-Long!

soo glad i desided to do eggtopsys of the eggs that had shown no signs of life yet of mondays hatch...so my total just went from 23 of 33 to 27 of 33 lol two were pipped when i picked them up and i put them back real quik... then as i was opening the others (i candled before hand and was quite certian nobody was left in there) but 2 of them were shrink wrapped so i opened them up a bit and helped them pip then moisened the membranes and wrapped in wet papertowls and put them back in to fininsh there stuff.
so so far ive had to assist 4 chicks... 3 were shrink wrapped inspite of my keeping the humid up when ever i had to open up the bator maybe i should try upping it more but then im scared theyll all drown... the other was hoplessly lost in the egg lol
next time im definitly going to stear away from a staggard hatch..(which is why i had to open so much) the older chicks were bullying the new borns so i had to keep removing them..1st one hatched sunday looks like last ones will hatch by tomorrow. so a 6 day spread... (and they were all started aug 19,20,and 21)
also hopefully next time i can keep from having temp drops which slowed some down a bit..
but my fuzz butts that have hatched are sooo cute and make me so happy.

you should try to use a separate incubator for lock down when staggering...glad you checked....congrats on the wee ones

maybe a day or so before they pip...they are turning into place...did you candle them to see if they have internally pipped? I have 5 guineas that have internally pipped that are from my own flock...they were only stored 2, very warm, days before being set....they aren't due until Friday...1 is externally pipped 4 internal....so if you give them the max time frame your talking 2 days early....you let me know when you get a pip....my chicken eggs are due Thursday I didn't see any internal pips on those but some were very active stretching into the air cell I'll let you know

Update:
First tiny pip forming in Buff #4 at lunchtime! Can't wait to see what's going on after work! The Brinsea is showing day 0 today although I had calculated that they were due on Friday the 13th.....

I love the eyes on this one
400
a couple like this one

only one like this :)
I love not knowing which chickens are the parents in a mixed flock, always a surprise to see the array of colors
11 of the 14 are out, one pipped and 2 I'm not sure if they'll hatch, but its only day 21, so we'll try to be patient

Well, we candled just now. It's been exactly 5 days (minus 1 hour lol) and here are the results.

The game hen cross egg is all nice and full of veins and looking great!

1 of the dark shelled eggs also has plenty of veins and looks nice and good!

1 is a bit iffy. I can see the eye and maybe a vein? Not sure but it's a darker egg so waiting until day 7 to decide.

1 is clear and infertile :(

1 has some crazy shadows in different areas and I'm pretty sure its dead. Will try to get pictures.

the last one has a visible eye, no veins that I could see, and the eye wobbles back and forth when you gently rotate the egg. I think that means its dead?

the standard is to wait and decide on day 10.....then there are no questions

Oh I made no 'take it out' decision's tonight. As a newbie hatcher who is getting confused by all the different looking egg candle pictures from eggs on the same day that look completely different I figured the best way to track and see if they were developing is to actually know what it looks like at different stages. I plan on candling Day 5 (today), Day 10, Day 14, and Day 18 right before lockdown.

Honestly even with a candler I could not tell much till day 18. Then it was pretty obvious that something was happening in 3, especially no. 4. I never saw any veins. Ever. The eggs were brown and pretty porous. I had 6 shipped buff orp eggs from AL to NC. 3 made it to lockdown and only one so far is pipping. But bless it's sweet little heart I can see its beak. And hear it chirping. I am praying. Good luck, everyone! Thanks so much for all your support.
