September Hatch-A-Long!

Honestly even with a candler I could not tell much till day 18. Then it was pretty obvious that something was happening in 3, especially no. 4. I never saw any veins. Ever. The eggs were brown and pretty porous. I had 6 shipped buff orp eggs from AL to NC. 3 made it to lockdown and only one so far is pipping. But bless it's sweet little heart I can see its beak. And hear it chirping. I am praying. Good luck, everyone! Thanks so much for all your support.

Picked up my new (used) Hovabator Genesis today and it works fabulously - can't believe how well it hold temps. I upgraded my Farm Innovator 4200 with an incukit from incubatorwarehouse.com and made it into my official hatcher. Took some serious diddling with settings but now its doing great. Just locked down my 9 mixed rare breed eggs a few hours early :) In my new Hovabator I have a large selection of Marans and Leghorn mixes - going for big blue eggers and olive eggers, and 3 Breda eggs - though I am very doubtful one will make it. I discovered after a few days that the air cell was forming in the pointy end due to spiderweb cracks in that end. I sealed it with wax but the vein mass is attached to the very top of the fat end of the egg. And I converted my LG still air with an incukit too and it is currently holding my Bielefelder, Sweet Potato Quechua and Colloncas eggs. I will probably shuffle them around here in a while so I can get my most important eggs into the hovabator.

I hope I am swimming in babies soon!

My name is Donna.....and i'm addicted to candling chicken eggs lol

Day 13 in the incubator :) Started with 8 silkie eggs, 1 was not fertile so went in the bin. Got 7 now all wiggling away happily :-D

Started candling at day 3 and now i can't stop :) Its been amazing watching them change so quick. Can't help myself, when i go to turn them over before i go bed i have to take a quick peek inside lol Only plan on candling 1 egg and end up looking through ALL of them just to check if they are all ok :)

Can't wait to see what an internal pip looks like!
Can't wait to see an EXTERNAL pip!
AND can't wait to see my little chicks :)

This is all completely new to me - i don't own any chickens....yet :)
