September Hatch-A-Long!

Yeah my birthday is in January and I already have a list of chicks and eggs from various breeders that I want as gifts! Chickens are really an addiction and we just can't get enough of them. I love and adore everyone of my feathered babies and I love watching them grow up and run around the yard and coming running up for treats and everything. I didn't even have chickens until this April, and now I have plenty of all different kinds of breeds and personalities. They are the coolest pets!
LOL! My addiction started in April too :) Now I have more chickens than I can count and most are rare breeds. Hoping to start selling chicks and eggs next year.

Yeah I have more then I should, but in order to get nice quality I had to buy from breeders in straight runs, so I have 14 I am selling to a friend that are a mix of pairs or Roos. I have a mix of barnyard mixes from an auction that I am trying to sell too, I just wanted a few for eggs, and I am starting to gather silkies and bantam Cochins and Breda for breeding and selling locally. I've been searching for good quality chicks and chickens for silkies and bantam Cochins and everyone has very poor quality that is really inbred or something. So I've decided that I will help supply DE with silkies that have better genetic diversity and fit the standard better. As for batam Cochins, I just wanted a few for myself but why not offer some here and there. I'm in love with Breda and just couldn't resist when I found some while buying silkies in PA! I only have 2 so far but I want unrelated ones as well so I will be looking for some more here soon :)

Same here. :p My addiction started in Feb and I'm out of control now and loving it. :lau

Well I'm finally home and my bator temp was 103.3f :( and I candled 4 eggs and only saw movement in one. On day 23 and no pips on chirps or anything. I checked the 5 under my broody and 3 eggs were crushed and almost fully developed chicks were dead :'(
So far hatching is not working out for me. Ugh!

Oh no! So sorry it doesn't seem to be working this time. Don't give up though! :hugs

What is it with April? That was the begining for me as well. I have wanted chickens for years but I was active duty moving every 3 years. I finally retired but worried I'd bother my neighbors. I started researching quiet chickens. I read about EE being quiet then the next day the feed store says they are getting some in a week. It was meant to be. Now I have way more than just EEs.

Peeping away and having cuddles!

Woke up to 2 chicks this morning!

They have totally trashed the place. My incubator is designed for 24 and I only have 12 in!

They are not quite dry yet but one has half an egg shell stuck to it's feathers by the membrane. What do I do? Leave it for now?

OOH! They have 5 toes like their daddy!

I know Max is only 2 days old but I am a bit worried. She will only eat what I eat. I tried to pretend to eat chick start but she's too smart for that. She hates chick start and scrambled eggs but loves chicken, pizza fries and ice cream. She like Nutri Drench, so I put lots in her water. I love this crazy little turkey.

And she prefers to eat off of a fork or spoon. I couldn't teach that to my ex in 2 years, turkey learns it in 2 days. Still working on using a napkin. She still has pizza sauce and ice cream in her feathers.

I would take it out, use a q-tip and warm water to dampen the membrane and peel it off the feathers gently. Congratulations BTW!!
