Congrats to all the hatches!!!

MAX...you are precious!!!!!

My 3 day old babies are doing good. Noticed 3 of them have feathered legs. So cute!!!! I love them!!!!!

Eggs in bator (1st gen Olive Eggers) on Day 3............................

Max is quite a charcter. She listens most of the time. If I put her in her bed, she will wait patiently but if I take too long she will walk to the edge of my bed and call me. Then jump down to look for me. If I put her back in her bed she will wait again. She will nap, then jump up and run around checking everything out. She'll stand on my foot while I feed the other chicks. She will eat anything but her chick start. She prefers to eat out of my hand or a spoon. Max learns so fast and copies everything I do. She loves my cell phone the most. Times have changed and so have turkeys.

14 out 1 just about out and seven more that I can see pips. worried about this large pip as it was like this 12 hrs. ago and I haven't seen any movement at all the whole time.

blood vessel?

I had a sparkle near my eye and Max tried to eat it. She got my eye lid instead. Oooowwwwwwiieee. I was so mad. She stayed in her bed for awhile, then came out trying to be cute. I still didn't forgive her so she tried helping play soduko on my phone (she is so adorable pecking away at the game) but I wasn't fooled because she loves playing any game on my phone. (She sends texts too but she doesn't know how to spell.) Then she tried cuddling up to me on my pillow and accidentally pooped on it. She gave up and went back to bed. She's in there all alone. How can I stay mad? All is forgiven.
Love it! I had the most beautiful silver colored Breda hatch last night and she stayed curled up in my hand to dry for hours. I will get pics of my two hatchlings and my tiny Blue Orpington who is still amazingly alive though I have had a heck of time getting her to eat or drink at all. She is the same size - maybe even smaller - than the newborns and she is 8 days old. The rest of her hatchmates are outside during the day in the chick playpen. I let her out too but today I am keeping her in to be company for the two newbies. I actually think getting her outside is the reason she is still alive. She didn't finally eat or drink - just stand up sleeping and chirping - until she went out there and saw the big beautiful world and the other chickens.

I have a chick that has something (cord maybe?) stuck and is dragging a piece of shell around I'm afraid he will pull it what do I do????? Is there anything I can do???
For me (we all have our own methods) I snatch it, clip the cord, put some iodine on it and put it either back in to dry or into the brooder - where ever is cleanest and least likely to introduce infection to the cord/naval.

Thanks. It's very white. It's the dark stain I was wondering about. Hadn't seen that on any of the others. It's started to chip at the shell. Although it does just seem to be making a bigger hole rather than round the egg. I will keep an eye on him for now.

Thanks again. X
In my experience when I have membrane staining it is the result of the chick trying to pip and hitting a small vein. Then they are still to prevent further damage, they absorb everything if they survived the bleed and then only start hatching again when they are totally done. If it was too big a vein and too much blood then you will eventually know becuase they will bleed out and get no further - in that case there is unfortunately nothing you can do. Its luck of the draw. I have lost several perfect chicks just because their pip happened to hit a major vein :( Its so sad. I hope it was a tiny bleed and your smart chick is just healing and waiting to hatch :fl
