September Hatch-A-Long

I hatch my own eggs... I have a blue Orpington rooster that I just love...
He is gorgeous! I would love to breed a beauty like that to my black orp girl, Zami. Any advice on getting her to quit being such a bully? She is way bigger than most of my flock which is mainly bantams and she has drawn blood on more than one occasion. The black orps are so hard to get where I live that we paid a lot for her and don't want to cull her because of her attitude if we can avoid it.

Do you have a rooster? I have a Molted java that is the bully in the yard, but the rooster tends to keep her in check, She never used to be like that but she is currently sitting on her third clutch of the year and I think that has a lot to do with it, she don't want any of the others hens near her when she is eating and runs everyone off if food is thrown out and I believe that's because she is used to having chicks 24/7 lol...

I don't anymore. I had one, and he did an amazing job keeping the girls friendly, but my neighbors kept complaining and eventually sent us an "anonymous" threat letter, so he had to go. It was heartbreaking because we just couldn't find him a home no matter how hard we tried and I eventually just had to have him culled.

I don't have any suggestions, She has deemed herself top hen and I don't know how to change that, maybe post a thread in the Managing your flock section?? Hope it all works out, I looked up that breed, Beautiful!!!

One of my chicks pipped (Externally) on the wrong side of the egg. The pointy side. Despite some fluid around the whole the chick is alive. Any thoughts on what next? Do I just wait and see if the chick makes it. Or should I try to help?

it's hard but give it time if it is chirping and breathing good it should be ok. I've had them hatch out ok from the wrong end before on their own but I've had to help a few too. I think most agree on waiting 24ish hours

Ok guys... here they are.. So happy with this hatch, talked to the lady buying these and she wants me to reset this week!! Yeah, I get to do this again and get paid for it
