Serama pipped on wrong side - UPDATE - 3 of 6 and hatch is over :(

If there's blood he most likely missed the air sac. Expect him to take a long time before he's ready to hatch.

Thanks so much for your two cents - worth a LOT more than that! He is in there, cheeping away, mostly just resting. I will check in on him in the morning and post an update then.

Thanks again!

Three out now!

Is this just a strange coincidence? I have six serama eggs. Three are larger than average and the other three are quite small. The three larger ones hatched, but the three smaller ones have yet to even pip. Coincidence? I sure am nervous about these guys.

Smaller eggs can be from pullets which are less likely to hatch or smaller hens which are less likely to hatch. While everyone does want smaller seramas the smaller they are the more difficult they are to hatch. They have a higher rate of infertility and the chicks have more trouble getting out of the eggs.

At what point do I need to help them, if at all?

I agree with the op about the pullet eggs, I set 2 under a broody hen that were just a bit bgger then a super ball. Out of the 2 eggs one hatched and the chick died the next day, the chick was the size of a quarter. It didn't need help hatching but it was wayyy too small to thrive. I didn't expect them to even develop. Then again anything is possible
