@Folly's place & @Ted Brown - I cannot store any lumber right now, as my shed is stacked full with the remaining painted planks from a huge fencing project my family has been on all summer. We were not able to finish the fence in time before autumn chores arrived and demanded our attention elsewhere, so we'll finish that project next summer. After that, I could consider maybe building a small coop for a broody mama with chicks (cue pallet wood), but otherwise my terrain is full xD
I have not thought of looking up kijiji for cheap lumber... but I will try it in the future, see what it yields! I've seen firewood for sale before, so pallet wood shouldn't be hard to find.
