Serious about Chanteclers...

Finished Isolation/Integration Pen 1 (of 2) inside my 10' by 16' Woods KD Coop today. With the Brooder Pen (see above) that is 2/3s of modification 3 underneath drop board and ramp; assuming it will not be the last.

Very simple construction: cut/bend hardware cloth to suit, as necessary connect using hog/zip ties; attach top and bottom of wire using 1/2" by 2" wooden trim; attach top and bottom of chick door slider rails and insert door. So far there are 10ish screws to remove and entire wire assembly will come out "tied together".

Always better to have multiple egress points.

So @aart, here is a related.

I will have at least one opening between Pen 1 & 2 so that I can use both "as one" when I want; will immediately put the 15 Chanticlers into both(?) and in three weeks I will move the 15 into Pen 2 (largest); will move the 5 chicks that resulted from incubating my blue and "chocolate" eggs into Pen 1 along with weak Chantecler (there is a whole other story evolving from that chicken...); and will add any that result from my current broody pullet.

Can I get away with one tiny door between the two pens?

When are these due to hatch....and how old are the Chancies?

You're not going to leave the broody chicks with the mama?
I would have both pens have tiny doors into main coop area.

Broody chicks are within days. Yes will leave those chicks with mama throughout included allowing free range after two weeks.

Agreed on doors. I will need six, two between the pens and two each into main coop area on both Pen 2 & 3 (middle and left pens). Assembling pen 3 and five doors is today's projects.

I have moved the five generation 2 chicks (we hatched their parents) into pen 2 (middle). I installed my mama heating pad to keep them warm (they are 2weeks old this weekend) during the nights just in case. I also moved the "Runtecler" from pen 3 and 14 other Chanties to give it an easier shot; it is half again in size as g2 chicks; I could notice a difference in tempo immediately.

Sorry for last two pics: 1st shows the five gen 2 chicks on top of MHP; last is "Runtacler" with twisted neck.
