I'm not sure what you could use the (it's name escapes me) concrete board stuff for. Think its too thin for most stuff but cut in strips as edgings is the only thing i can think of right now. As for the tile, walkways come to mind. I am always laying bits of pavers, slate, what-have-you for paths and walkways and even rearrange it when I get new stuff lol.

Some wire, and concrete or adhesive you could make a planter out of 5 (one on each side and one on the bottom) or w/ 4 you could make a pretty cover for an ugly pot.

You're not doing something right if your back doesn't hurt! HA! I've ruined mine over the years with gardening and lifting 40# bags of compost, mulch, fertilizer, etc. I like my raised beds though. When I get bags of peat/cow I roll them out of my van into the wheelbarrow (a 2 wheel cart actually). Then I use the wheelbarrow to leverage the bags from it to dump into the bed, without having to lift them. Let gravity be your friend for a change.

What are you going to grow this year? Do you raise them from seed or buy starter plants?

I start most of my plants from seeds. I grow lots of stuff so I will just make a list

tomatoes
cherry tomatoes
onions
chives
lettuce 4 kinds
cabbage
spinach
broccoli
raddishes
green peppers
bannana peppers
sunflowers
pumkins
watermellon
squash
zucchini
cucmbers
sweet potatoes
dill
cantaloupe
corn
okra
peas
bush beans
grapes
black berries
strawberries
rhubarb
rasberries
mulberries
peanuts
asparagus
carrots

Well I hope I didn't forget anything. We have a large family to feed and I like to can and freeze as much as I can. I also love to cook and bake. I grow extra things to feed to the chickens too I have a small garden just for them. I make the kids work in the gardens all summer and they have a lot of fun and like that they earn money doing it when we sell veggies at the farmers market. So it's a family thing for us. How about you?

wow, that's some list!
this morning just drove to a local farm to pick up a round bale of mulch hay. this thing looks 50% composted already, good for me, and looks like the $25 will be good for him. Also had the added excitement at no extra charge (that's the city slicker half talking) of helping round up his cows from the road. Sillies.

My seeds take up a whole xl drawer in the kitchen. woo hoo! I only lack grapes, peanuts, and mulberries from this year's plans. Don't tell DH, he'll try and get those too.

My broccoli, once again, is heading up for mere quarter sized heads. Really, what am I doing wrong?

Well we went to Rural King this morning to pick up some garden supplies and I could not help it I bought more seeds. I swear it is an addiction I can't help it.
I can't leave that store without dropping at least a hundred bucks

Then we stopped and bought flowers from a local greenhouse.

What in incredible list!!!!! NO WONDER YOUR BACK HURTS!!!!! OMG! I had no idea how big your enterprise was!!!!

Like you, I can't pass a garden center without stopping and leaving piles of money. It's not an addiction actually, it's more like a compulsion! do you know the difference between an addiction and a compulsion? An addiction is the desire to do some self destructive behavior over and over. A compulsion is when you have no control over actually DOING IT! (Besides, the voices in my head TOLD me to!)

Gardening means : I'll never have clean fingernails again.

Hah check this out! Do some research on Mycobacterium Vaccae, the soil may be more addictive than you realize!

This good bacteria in the soil has anti-depressive qualities to it. In essence it causes a release of seratonin in your brain. Kinda like Zoloft, but natural.

I found this article awhile back and your post reminded me of it.

i adore gardening. Though my chickens got into my garden today, dug up some of my perinial onions for a dust bath, ate a bunch of my tender lettuce *sighs*, and tossed a bunch of my planted seeds looking for bugs.

I am both amused and annoyed
