Seriously! What’s wrong with my girls?!

These white crusty buns have been like this. I posted another thread about it, because one of the two black hens had some time of organ tissue come out of her. Unfamiliar and emergent, I immediately pulled it out, later to find out that wasn’t the best idea. She’s acted, both have, 100% fine since, though. My red hen, she was going through a phase of eating all the eggs recently. It looked like a lack of calcium could have been the problem for both issues; we’ve supplemented with oyster shells, now. We also added dummy eggs, so it could have been either the dummies or the calcium that is causing her to stop. Just mentioning this for context. Red chick’s fine, it seems. So is he. I also thought excess treats like grapes and mealies could be the issues. I scaled back, but no change. I want to clean her off SO bad, but last time I messed with one of their bums, I removed some sort of anatomic tissue. So, I’m asking first.

You may have pulled on a prolapsed vent. I would soak any poopy butts in warm and soap water, and gently wash any poo off. Dry them well, and don’t get them too wet, just the vent area. A dab of vaseline or oil to the vent may help. A picture when cleaned up may help. Chickens may have part of the vent come outside when laying or straining to poop or to lay an egg. It usually goes back inside. If the prolapse stays outside, the chicken should be separated and that should be treated. Are your hens drinking plenty of water, and have more than one waterer available? Dehydration can cause crusty white urates to build up. Urates is the kidney waste.

They do have water. We pulled something out of one of the sisters, but not the other, and they both have it. I’ve washed them several times, but it only looks like it’s getting worse.
