Set eggs 4/6, EDD 4/27 & 4/28...wanna hatch with me??

I came home to a new Welsh Harlequin duckling in the 'bator this afternoon - there's another egg zipping, and one that hasn't done anything yet (I only set 4 eggs, and lost one sometime in week 2).

I've got 39 eggs in the bater for the 28th hatch...RIRs and EEs. Also have a goose sitting on eggs that should start hatching some time around there. Babies everywhere! (I hope!)

Howdy all! I haven't "stopped by to visit" this thread for a little while, but I'm glad I did now! I am on day 14 today with my first dozen, I think they're buttercups? I candled on day 7 and all but 1 had awesome veining. The one without veining might have had something but I'm not sure so I left it in. I'm trying so hard to stay as hands off as I can with this hatch, and my LG egg turner and Hovabator are doing an awesome job so far!

I am on day 10 with 1 dozen wyandotte and 1 dozen spangled hamburg eggs. I only candled a few last night but they looked good. I was in a hurry to get the lid back on.

So now, I bought 3 dozen more hatching eggs. I fired up the Good ol' (and I use that term very loosely) LG a few hours ago. I don't think I'll fit all the eggs in but hey I'll get in what I can! The drama of using the LG continues... But I do have to say that I am thrilled with my Hovabator so far this year! My hatch rates have been crappy with the LG, but I'm still trying to learn this whole incubating thing!

Annarie: congrats on the duckling!

Amy: So sorry about the easter chick. I've no idea what could've happened

My duck eggs go into lockdown on friday I think. I chuked another 3 out last night - all 3 were very early quitters. There are now 5 cayugas still in there, but all have very damaged air sacs from the bad shipping experience, so we shall see. 7/7 of my own pekin duck eggs still going strong. I tell you, 21 days for chicks is a breeze compared to this whole 28 days for ducks thing. Ugh.
And the 5 random chicken eggs I had in the bator with the duck eggs? 4 out of 5 hatched yesterday and today so now I need to set up a second brooder for 4 chicks, and will (I presume) need a third for my ducklings. Eek. Am living in rubbermaid tub land here! Can't wait for everyone to be ready to go outside now.

Yep, I go into lockdown on Saturday!

At least for the first round of hatching... 4 days later I go in to lockdown again. Then I just placed 30 eggs in again this morning... Plus I have 3 broody hens who should have chicks hatching any day now!

I'm so over the dead chick, but still have that nag of what happened and will I lose more? hoe hum!

I can't believe that were this close already??
My silly silkie gets off the nest in the a.m. to do her job........... and while she's off the nest another hen keeps her eggs warm for her. now that's what I call team work. well until she lays her egg, but by then my silkie is back......

I'm so proud of her. I can't wait to see what happens when they hatch a week early? (they were in the 'bator for a week when she decided to become broody)

Amy...ok, ok, pics to follow shortly.
I'd forgotten how tiny new chicks are.
I have fallen in love with one of them - I just threw in an egg from my buff orpington hen (black australorp dad) on a whim, but the chick is gorgeous - she looks just like a mini buffy but with black stripes and she is soooooo soft, and totally in character for a BO she is letting the other chicks sit under her tiny wings

I'm keeping her for sure and her name is Angel. (I was never a buffy the vampire slayer fan but vaguely remember there being a character called angel and it seems to suit the chick well)
Off to take photos...
