Set eggs 4/6, EDD 4/27 & 4/28...wanna hatch with me??

hi, it's me Raimnel and I got a question about ur broody. I put my silkie eggs in the bator and now my silke went broody.............

I tried moving her a pen with food and water, but she just filled the dish with shavings and she wont stay put she gets out and goes back to the nest. she has no eggs YET! but even when I put test eggs under her she left them and went to her favorite nest.
this nest is too high for future chicks. the nest is also the FAV of all the hens to lay eggs in. I know I can mark the eggs and remove the rest.............. so should I just keep her up there and what about chicks?
next I have no eggs under her yet...... can I put 2 of the bator eggs in there? their a week in..................

AHHHHHH I don't know can I keep her with everyone else or should I be more persistant

I cant help ya out Amy. Got none old enough so never experienced it yet.

I candled my eggs Thursday (day 10). I was ticked off because I had unplugged my LG earlier that day (sold it yay!) and apparently, the cord to my hovabator needs to be a certain direction to work and it wasnt. So it was off all flippin day

The temp was 74.8, the room it was in was 75. And it had been a rock solid 99.5 and 99.6 the WHOLE TIME!

So I saw NOTHING moving

Most were definate clears with detached air cells, 2 blood rings. So out of my 31 shipped that went in, 19 were left (not that the clears were affected by the bator being off). I kept a few questionables. A couple out of the 15 the guy gave me were clears as well.

So I checked a few of them lastnite. They were moving!! Yay!!! So Im wondering if the low temp just slowed their metabolizm?? But they will be ok???

. Im expecting none but will be happy to have a few hatch.
The bator looked so empty when I removed all the clears/blood rings after it being completely full, that I had to get some more eggs! I bought 12 barnyard mix brown egg layers (roos are RIR's) from ebay lastnight....basically for the cost of shipping!
She will be mailing them out Monday!

Hope everyone elses eggs are doing well!

i got 4 out of 6 silkies who are developing well and still waiting on my Salmon faverolles to arrive she has emailed me t say she will send em monday though so fingers crossed tuesday dont know if you heard but i lost my gosling

I tried putting my broody in a new nest box with her eggs & she kept going back to "her" empty nest box. It wasn't until I moved her to a "maternity ward" (huge watermelon box) with a nest box, eggs & feeder & waterer, that she stayed put.

PS- she is totally isolated & out of the coop. She didn't want to get on her nest at first, but did a little bit later. She was just a little freaked out at being moved at first.

LOLOL!!! We posted a the same time. Yeah the watermelon box is one of those 4X4' ones that they have in the grocery stores, about 2' high & I have it covered with a piece of wood on half and a grate on the other half.

too funny, post at the same time.

so she IS locked in and can't go free ranging?
I have yet to see my sikie get out on her own?? every morning now I'm taking her out. and prob before bed.
I just candled 2 eggs, one splash (her egg) and one black/blue both silkie eggs and stuffed them under her. they look GREAT!!

???? she didn't pull them under her when I set them near her, should I be concerned??

so what about when the eggs hatch? it like 2' to the floor??

are they gonna fall out and die cause they can't get under her?

She is locked in. I was told & read that it's no biggie if they don't range during brooding. Since they likely wouldn't range anyway, not to mention dark & quiet is preferable for a hatchery chicken.

Mine didn't pull hers under her at first either, but now if there's one out from under her she's fastidious at moving them under her. I don't know about the falling, my nest box is actually a rabbit nest box that I wasn't using and it sits directly on the floor of the maternity ward.
