Set eggs 4/6, EDD 4/27 & 4/28...wanna hatch with me??

TXmom

that is such a precious picture of your broody! My little Gimpy is trying for the first time but thus far there is nothing peeping under her... she is getting wobbly too so that's why i asked if she'd transition easily to the ones in the incubator if worst came to worst.... She looks like your Sammie!

I think she would love to adopt several from the incubator if none of hers hatch. But if she's looking wobbly, then there's probably some hatching going on under her. My Sammie was very wobbly Saturday morning...I could see that her legs were shifting/moving under her although her body was almost still. Then 3 little baby heads poked out to say "Hi" to my daughter....LOL. She was wobbly all day as the eggs were hatching and the babies were moving around under her. Now she seems very comfortable with her 7 babies...in and out and running around and on top of her.

to funny!

Congrats on the Silkie EE! LOL...Don't you just LOVE little mutant cross-breeds? I can't wait to see what my Silkie crosses turn out to look like when they grow up. Most of mine have 5 toes on each foot, but pink/orange skin!
cool.png
I don't see any Silkie feathers coming in, except maybe on the black ones...the others look hard-feathered. But one of the little red ones has poofy cheeks...muffs and beard? Should look very interesting in a few months!

TXmom

i was hoping that she would take to them. she's my most docile bird regardless
smile.png
she got off to eat and drink yesterday (i was a little surprised with all the cheeping and peeping going on next door in the incubator) and when she got off the nest she was pretty wobbly. she is definitely feeling the strain of not taking better care of herself. nothing was happening beneath her when she got off but hopefully within the next day or two she too will have a few little ones of her own. if not... well adoption is a great thing!

My last chick just hatched, it was the 2nd one that was under the broody. I had to totally help this poor thing. it was internally piped for almost 24 hours. I could hear it in the peeping. so I carefully piped the big end and went from there. all day I worked on it little by little and finally by 8pm I ended up removing half the shell (the long way). at 9pm I took the 11 chicks to their brooder. (the box where I HAD the broody(who is now in the big coop)) and by 9:40 tonight it pushed it's way out!!!

I think though it might have something wrong with its feet, they don't look quite right.

All 6 of my d'uccle spitzhauben crosses hatched, and 8 of my 10 porcelain d'uccles hatched. The other two had broke the membrane but their eggs were super tough, I could barely crack them to check the status. So now I have to get pics!

That EE/Silkie cross is soooo cute!

I think our shells are too thick... we've only got one of our own ee/silkie crosses that is making it out and it pipped on thursday and is still making its way around! but it is making progress so we're NOT opening the incubator...

i think we may be up to 16 in our incubator... will wait 'til tomorrow morning to do emergency evac for those that were partying in the bator a whole day before schedule...

Our broody has at least one! (and only one as of yesterday afternoon when she got off the nest to get food and left the little peeper behind) (<--- is that normal?) it looked like 2 more might have been pipping but it was kind of dark in there when she got off...

my silkie just made a squawk like she does after laying an egg.... ???? does that mean that number 2 has hatched or that her plumbing is back to pre-brooding order? Or maybe she's just irritated at honey taking a picture of her and the one baby? (she did it after he close the cage and walked back over to me though)

the silkie/EE awwww

Ok, so the ten ducks I hatched out, I want to keep 3 of the 7 pekins and all 3 of the cayugas, so I listed the other 4 pekin ducklings on craigslist and could have sold them 15 times over...so....um, I bought a dozen pekin eggs at the farmers market today and have 7 maybe 8 of my own pekin eggs to go in too...so am off on another duck hatch
smack.gif
me!!!

Worse still DH said, well if they sell well, why not get some khaki campbells and more cayugas and load the other incubator too

He's not normally an enabler I swear!
Maybe I shouldn't? I've been lucky so far and my success rate has got higher with each hatch. Hmmm. What if they all hatched (unlikely as half would be shipped) and I had 50+ ducklings that nobody would buy?????????????????
ep.gif
I can just imagine that on my 25ft wide duck pond!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I saw some sebastopol geese eggs on craigslist
