Set eggs 5/18 - whose with me?

Well I candeled a few of the white shelled eggs last pm and there was lots of activity. I was so proud that I could barely stand myself.

The brown shelled eggs could have had something going on or it could have been my imagination. Just a wait and see operation. I hope everyone else is having success.

On the dark shelled eggs I just look for the air cell, If I see on at day 7 then I just assume it's doing ok. If it's larger at day 14 I know the chick is still forming. I've had great results just looking for that.
As far as my hatch is going, it looks like only 4 of the 12 mille fleur eggs are developing, and 3 of my four barnyard X eggs are doing just fine. I'm somewhat disappointed with the turnout on the mille's, but that's just the way it goes I guess. I've had great results with shipped eggs though, so I assume this is just a fertility issue.
Looking forward to hearing everyone else's first week results.

Well I got rid of all my pheasnt eggs non of them was fertle, I guess my brother in laws pheasnt ether is to young (just shy of a year) , dosnt know how to get his groove on , or isnt actually male

. I also tossed 2 of the chucker eggs they were both empty . So I have 15 of the origanal 17 eggs thats not to bad. How are all your eggs doing ?

My duck eggs are making me nervous... Going to candle them tomorrow with a better light. Granted they were semi-shipped ( I picked them up but it was 100+ outside and they were still 'cold' when I got them?

) and I drove 50 miles back home with them in Skylar's lap. He's really upset that we didn't 'see' anything in the eggs... Also I think they have detached air cells. -sigh- all we can do is keep trying!

Just lost almost all of my SSH eggs. The hen that was on 15 got raided last night, poor hen was scalped pretty good and the coon broke the eggs inside of the pen and ate the chicks through the wire.. Left nothing but egg shells and a bloody mess. I think the hen will be fine but we will have to see. I'm worried about her, but her grand mother survived a worse attack and lived another 7 years!

Also, it's REALLY hard not to check on the turkeys I set the 24th. They traveled all the way from GA...

And finally, every other eggs is currently going on strong! A few detached air cells from the eggs Skylar decided he wanted to 'shake' and see if he could hear a chick peeping, but they survived. They also survived a temp spike.

But so far, about 75% of the eggs I have set are going on strong!

matlock585- That sounds good. I will keep that in mind for the brown shells. Thanks for the tip. I'm sorry that you didn't have better results with your mille's.

gabrielle1976- 15 out of 17 is great in my opinion. I decided that if I even got a few to hatch my first time out, I would be happy.

orumpoultry- I'm sorry to hear about your hen being attacked and the eggs being eaten. I hope that she gets well soon. Being new to incubation and all, I don't know how to tell if there is a detached air cell. I had never heard of it until this post. What do you look for?

They havent hatched I set them on 5-18 just that many have babies in them hopefully I can get a good 70% of these to hatch out babies and I will be happy , though I woudnt turn my nose up at all of them hatching whne they are ready

There are some great egg candling pictures you can search for on BYC. At the fat end of the egg when candling you can see a small aire bubble, it will look like a a flat clear space. There is also a great air cell diagram you can search for on BYC too.

My one egg that was fertile and is growing out of 9 shipped eggs is still hanging in there. One nice thing is the breeder is going to give me some more eggs. I paid to ship them.

Orumpoultry-So sorry to hear about the raccoon getting your momma hen, so sorry.

Detatched air cells can move when you move the egg I think. On shipped eggs unless the weather ir real warm I hear you should sit them for 24 hours befor incubateing them or incubate them without turning them for the first few days to make shure the air cell is as good as it can be . And thats makeing shure they are fat end up as thats where the air cell should be.

So I finally managed to candle the remaining eggs.. Tossed 9 clear eggs. All four duck eggs are going strong, and the remaining eggs have a LOT of movement. I'm super thrilled. Glad to see everyone is doing well.

mrscollaredgreen - To put it simply, a detached air cell moves. It can happen when the egg is shaken, shipped, dropped, etc... It can also happen when a six year old decides to shake them in an attempt to hear peeping!

Anyone counting down to lock down yet? The eggs all look fantastic on this end.

ill join in set 21 eggs sultan frizzle, polish frizzle, cochin frizzle, and silkie frizzle... then i did the may egg swap with 30 more eggs lol... ohhhh im in trouble if all hatch lol... good luck everyone..
