Okay, well here's the latest scoop on my incubation. I candled my eggs over the weekend and realized that my air cells were too big for day 13 - I had the humidity lower than my previous incubation based on a poor second hatch. So DH fixed the controls on our homemade bator so the humidity would be higher. What we didn't realize was the little humidifier that is in the incubator (DH bought it at Lowe's home improvement store) had malfunctioned, and was producing more heat than it should. I had checked the bator about 3 in the afternoon and all was well and by 9pm, it was too hot! Like, I am not sure exactly how much too hot, because I immediately unplugged it and took the lid off hot.
So I thought my eggs - all of them, my silkies, my neighbor's silkies, and my new d'uccle eggs were toast. Or poached. Or something. I was so upset!
DH fixed the bator (now the humidifier is on the OUTSIDE of the bator, with a tube to blow the moist air in the bator). The next morning, I candled the eggs. A couple of the silkie babies were moving!!! (day 14). I had to go to work, but when I came home I candled my neighbor's eggs - they still looked okay, but they are too early to see movement. And more of my silkie eggs looked okay!
Yesterday I candled my d'uccle eggs - some of them are developing!!!!
I'm so relieved. Lockdown is Thursday for the silkies!
