Nice pictures, y'all! And nice incubator, K2chickens! You sure are gonna have a bunch of fuzzy butts!
I candled on Tuesday and removed the eggs that weren't developing (5). The remaining 5 silkie and 2 silkie mix eggs were dark except for the air cell and "pointy" end!!! Lots of baby in those. 5 of 7 mille fleur d'uccle eggs had veins (although one was very porous, so I'm not expecting too much).
Had a 'bator incident today though - fuse blew in the controller - came home at 11:30 to discover the bator temp was down to 88 F! Called DH who said it couldn't have been off that long b/c the temp would drop pretty fast. He talked me through a repair - my first incubator repair

Lol, I wish I had a nice bator! Its just a miesley little 1588, but for 130 bucks shipped...its been really good to me. The egg turner inside was only 5 bucks, they marked it wrong at rural king when they started selling them so I found it and they had to honor me for it lol. But thank you for the nice complement!
I tossed all the extra non fertile eggs in my incubator tonight, getting ready for lock down tomorrow. I had my egg fat side up in a little cup, today I laid it on its side so it would be able to get into position for an "on its side" delivery. I wasn't sure if I should lay it on its side or keep it upright. I read a little about it and figured, if momma chicken isn't standing all her eggs fat side up for a hatch maybe I shouldn't either. I like the ease of turning (since I do it manually) when the egg is in the cup, but for lock down we'll be lying down.
I did candle again this evening, and we are full of baby in there. I think he/she is very close to ready.

for a Tuesday hatch.
i agree with you completely, if people have good luck hatching in egg cartons then fine...let them hatch that way, but everyone can agree on the fact that the best incubator is a momma hen. And we all know that hen's don't point their eggs fat side up while she incubates/hatches, if she did we would see our broodies lifted up two inches from the floor just sitting there in mid air atop all her eggs pointing down at the floor holding her up!
