Set eggs today3/11 Due 4/1 for Easter! 1st ever hatch! Please join me!

ok guys....i DID wake up to something happy! remember...out of my 8 showgirl eggs, i only had one pip? well, the "one pip" egg is still trying to get out....it's just making a bigger hole in the egg. BUT, a different egg hatched during the night! and i THOUGHT i saw a pip in that egg before i went to bed, but it was only a slight hairline crack in the egg....so slight i thought my eyes could've been playing tricks on me. but sure enough, it hatched during the night! i'll try to send pics later. anyway, it's not a showgirl, it's a silkie. but i'm still gonna keep him (i was gonna keep one outta this batch) cuz he's my 1st chick outta my 1st hatch. kinda special don't ya think? anyway, i think he's gonna be a white silkie.....the lil' guys' got a vaulted skull, that's for sure! cute as can be! send good hatching vibes for the slow one to hatch!

Awoke to a total of 9 chicks in the bator, and at least 6 more pipped/zipping! Looks like I've got a fair number of rumpless chicks, thus EE or araucana crosses, but my flock is such a crazy gumbo of genetics that figuring out everyone's parentage may be impossible. The main thing I wanted out of this hatch was a couple of green-egg-laying hens, and it looks like my mission may have succeeded! I will post pics as soon as they are in the brooder.
To everyone's chicks that are still hatching: keep going! You're almost out! :

My kids don't want to go to school today! I think they have chick "fever"!

Of our 9/17, 1 chick hatched!, 2nd d'uccle is zipping, 2 Ameraucana's pipped and 1 Frizzle pipped.

I think I have chick fever, too!

well, the one that was slow finally hatched nearly 24 hours after piping. i'm a bit worried about him cuz he is still attached to the shell by this membrane that looks kinda bloody AND it looks like it has poop within the membrane too. and he's just been laying there for the past hour. he moved around a bit after hatching for a few seconds....but now he's not moving. maybe he's just tired, the main thing that worries me is the membrane thing still attached. sorry for my stupidity in all this, but this is my 1st hatch. and he's a silkie too! no vaulted skull though. it would be nice to get a showgirl outta my showgirl eggs!

Hi Chkinut, I was also very concerned about my chick last night. It came out of the egg and just laid there! But being a neophyte to hatching, I didn't know what to expect. Today, she's doing great! Just hang in there...

chknut- I've had some that hatched with a fair amount of membrane/umbilical cord/unidentified goop attached, and they turned out fine so long as I left them alone. It generally seems to dry up and fall off on its own after while. As far as the chick not moving around... they seem to need alot of rest after breaking out of the shell. I bet that after some rest, it'll be fine.

My hubby woke me up last night to let me know we have two quitters in our incubator

We are guessing 2 out of the 4 our Broody hen is sitting on will hatch. Not sure about the other two. On two it looks like there is something inside but no movement I'm guessing that is bad. The other two are moving alot. All I ask for is that at least one hatches out for her. She has been such a good momma-to-be.

It is very exciting to see how everyone is doing and to see some hatching pictures. I am getting pretty anxious about mine now.
