*Set eggs Tonight (Nov. 23rd) Any one due around Dec. 14th??*

I now believe i have a broodie hen also. My silkie is in the nestbox atm and usually sleeps on the roost unless broodie. LOL

Joining super late, but oh well. I started out with 16 silkie eggs and 3 OEGB. Candled on day 5 and had 6 silkies developing and 1 OEGB. The silkies were shipped eggs, and I wasn't expecting much, so I was very happy to have 6 good ones!. Last set of 24 shipped eggs had 0 hatch. My homemade incubator temp has been pretty steady at 100, with the humidity around 50%, give or take. I'm going to candle again tonight (day 15) and then wait for the pips!

Welcome. Im sorry you last hatch was so bad.

I removed more eggs, opened them and verified that none had even started. So I'm now down to 8 out of 15.

I can see veining in most of them, but 6 of them have ginormous air sacks and irregular shapes. So I'm hopeful but not really expecting many chicks. But I am still new at this, so what do I know.

My first shipped eggs were shipped vertically pointy end down and I had excellent results. The next three sellers all sent their eggs on their sides and I've had terrible results from those eggs - 0/5; 1/8; and this current batch due Dec. 14 that I have now thrown out 7/15. Sure shipping is hard on eggs, but I am wondering if the way they are packed is just as important. Sure they have all arrived unbroken, but is there more to it than that? Maybe just a coincidence as there are many factors contributing to a successful hatch. Has anyone else noticed a correlation between the position the eggs were shipped in and the resulting hatch rate?

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed until the very end.

I've got 18 eggs from Hot2Pot in the incubater now. They are due on the 15th. I candled a couple days ago and I have three clear and one early quitter. So 14 growing!

. They are buff and dark Brahmas and one sussex. I am trying dry incubation this time to see if it helps more hatch. My last attempt I had 11 hatch of those nine made it.

I don't have any in the incubator right now but I had to give my good luck and best wishes to all of you. Hears to a successful hatch to all of you! Oh, and Scarlet456 stop worrying you are doing all you can do to have a good outcome this time. I might just have to get some chicks from you this time---I am doing all the work and you are getting the results! Give my little Gracie a peck on the head from "momma"!Let me know how the eggs look Friday when you check them again I'll be waiting to hear!

I candled my silkie eggs that I put in with my others. They are not due till about 10 days or so after this weekends hatch. I have movement and great veining in 6 out of the 7 eggs!!! And I have come up with an ingenious way to keep turning them when I go into lockdown tomorrow! I will put the eggs in the egg carton under one of the larger ventilation holes and use a coat hanger to tip it from side to side!!!!! We will see how well that works. I don't want to lose silkies and sizzles.

You don't turn eggs in lockdown....put them in, tape the bator shut, and watch egg-chickie TV....they need to position to hatch
