Set my *FIRST* batch of eggs this AM Jan.21st. UPDATE. I've got 2.pg14

I just candled too! I pulled 3 that I was pretty sure were duds. I broke them open and 2 were infertile and one just had a blood ring. I was so excited that I actually knew what I was looking at! I have 11 left in the bator that are really looking good. I saw the dark spot like in pictures I've seen. I have mutts..but hopefully I'll have 11 mutts!!

I was watching those. I got the LF welsummers off of that post...It's going to be hard to candled those babies...

momma's chickenskeeping my fingers crossed for ya on the fertility of your eggs...blue orps sound great..

so, temps 99.4, are still good here and humidity is is 40% I'm turning about 4-5 times a day, more if i can, less if I can't but at least 3 times. Do you think that will make a difference? Not doing it the same everyday? jeez, sure hope not!

Yes, got the B-Welsummers from the nutso auction. Afraid to touch them. Had 2 silkies hatch from my lockown, but both had deformed feet, and both died today. Felling pretty sad right now.

I'm kind of in the same boat with you here, the only egg that my broody BO was sitting on was victim to our egg eater. It was so sad, I could see the little baby all dried up and hard. It only had 5 days left too, darn!! Good thing I have the incubator running, helps keep my mind off of what just happened. Next time I know if I have a broody to move her, lesson learned. BTW, I candled 4 out of 7 and saw a dark spot with veins coming out of all 4. Hope this works out, not sure I can handle 2 dissapointments. Rachel

My bator is holding temp and humidity and doing great. My plan is to keep hands off onless I have a problem, Get the Suro20 up and running [as b/u if neede] then candle & transfer the eggs on Monday, day 10.

My candling record's not great & I'm not going to experiment with these eggs. The B-Welsummer eggs are light to medium brown, not as dark as LF Wellies, so I see well with my 20 LCD flashlight.

Good luck everybody!

LOL I knew YOU had the BWellies, not Feathered L. But didn't realizes they weren't as dark of egg color. I got 7 eggs and 3 are lighter than the rest. my humidity went down to 25% today, that's the lowest it's been ever..i'm a little nervous about that, but i added water.

The Suro 20 is up, running and holding temp and RH perfectly!

If things continue to go well [so far HovaBator holding perfectly, KOW] I will candle the eggs on Monday and transfer them into the Suro 20.

The rotator cradle tilts alarmingly, so I put alabaster eggs in to be sure they wouldn't tilt out!

I'm going to do my candling tonight to make sure everything is still on track. I'm leaving for the weekend and want to have my mind at ease. I'll let you know what I find.
