Set our second hatch Saturday 5/12/12

I don't know--I guess time will tell. I will say that you are not the only one this has happened to. I have read many stories. Some actually have a back up generator just for the bator! lol That is hard core!

Wcstory--I can't get your cam to work. I use google and I downloaded the vlc but still it doesn't work. Any ideas?

No matter what I click on I always end up with a door to like a coop or something no eggs in site and no option for diffrent camras
When using Google chrome it locks out the multi camera view feature. You have to enter ID - chicken & PW - coop then chick the SECOND login for Google or Firefox. Some times you will be prompted to re-enter ID & PW. If you don't see a live video image click "live Video" at upper left.

ok now all i see is some yellow thing and control center and a digital screen of some sort where the camra is pointed
That's the controls for the GQF 1588

I like to be able to check the incubator's temp and humidity from my cell phone. You know.....boys and their toys.

The last link is the egg cam, but there action won't start till Friday evening

Yippee!!!! I have internet!!! Happy dance!!!!

Yes, Avonshire I may have been a little early on lock down. I set eggs 5/12/12 at 7pm and locked down on 5/29/12 at 7pm but I could not do it this morning as I had WAY too much going on and I'm lucky to be home and inside already tonight. I guess I shouldn't of counted 5/12/12 as day 1. Live and learn!!!

The first hatch I just threw them in and checked on them when I could. I yoyo'd the temps as I fiddled with it the entire time. Humidity was totally all over the place. I filled it full of water when I set the eggs, let it go dry, refilled it, went dry again. I really didn't do a good job watching it. I opened the bator over and over again, checking on the chicks and removing them 2 by 2 and still got 12 of 15 good eggs.

This time I tried to read as much as I could. I have tried to cross my t's and dot my i's but somehow feel that I messed this batch up more than the first, lol.....

We will know by Fri/Sat. Fingers crossed I get at least a few healthy happy chicks. I really wanted these Salmon Faverolles. I've been thinking about them since last year but choose the Light Brahmas first. It's going to be a long couple of days waiting and one of my co-workers broke her ankle and I got slammed with a ton of hours, not a day off until next Wednesday, grrr...... I actually scheduled time off to be around. I had Friday-Monday off. HAD being the key word. If all goes I should only be gone for like 11 hrs each day.

Good to chat with you both!!! Do either of you plan to hatch again soon? I'll be sure to post when I can, please do the same. I tried to look at the web cam and can't seem to get it I'll try it again when I have time to mess around more. For now it is good night!!!!

OH and a question!?!?!?! When you said you had lots of pips, what do you mean??? The actual noise they make within the shell, out of the shell or when they start to break the shell? This term seems to have multiple meanings or is it me not getting it?

What looks like pips is actually is some of the chips and straw on the eggs. I don't wash eggs, but I do some damp cloth cleanups.

Pips = poking a hole

Peeps = "mom, mom, get me out of here!" I'm sure that's what they're saying because when that starts I can't keep the wife or daughter away.

Hi All,

Somehow I missed this thread earlier. I just put my first 15 eggs on lockdown tonight. I am trying the dry incubation method so I added water & candled/weighed tonight for the last time. My % weight loss was kinda high on some eggs...like 21% on one. I hope that doesn't mean i've killed them. The humidity went up to 70% after i put the water in. I've kept my temp right at 100* pretty steadily. I guess if nothing else this hatching eggs thing is teaching me patience

Like you guys, I left my questionable eggs because I do not trust my candling ability (especially thru blue Ameraucana eggs). I hope I don't get any exploding eggs on Saturday.

Good luck & post pics when the babies are born!
