Set some eggs just now, due date 20th July.... anyone else setting just now? Hatch-Along

Thanks. I need to chill out!!! About 5 minutes ago it got the glob off so it should be smooth sailing from here.....I hope. Do you know if there is any truth to the first chick stimulating the others to hatch? I swear I see another moving but the chick is doing acrobatics around the incubator so I am not sure lol.

My first one hatched on day 19, and waited until late in the evening for another one to hatch.. they were sitting in the eggs next to eachother during that time so who knows?

Sad to report no additional hatching activity since Friday night when a single chick pipped and did not zip.
We had such hot humid weather , I think despite my attempt to do a dry hatch the humidity and high heat (my next door neighbor was found dead on the floor - no air conditioning and triple digit heat) did in this hatch at the end.
My source of hatching eggs has dried up - no more Roo at that flock - so I'll be retiring the bator for a while.
Congrats to the rest of you with your fuzzy butts. I've still got a half dozen four week olds in the brooder so that should keep me satisfied for a while.

Oh wow, I didn't think it could get so hot up there where you are, so sad, I'm sorry to read this.

Ok. I have a ton of questions all of the sudden because as you can tell by now my nerves are shot and I am depending on all of you to keep me honest and not kill these eggs! First, the chick I do have hatched around 10 am and I have seen nothing from the other eggs since then. I thought maybe some wiggles but I'm pretty sure its just the chick kicking them around. Is it normal for the other eggs to still just be sitting there? Can I take the chick out tonight if there are no more pips? And should I candle the remaining eggs to check on them or is it too soon. Tonight will make a full 22 days. The chick is going crazy in there so I kinda want to take it out to protect the other eggs. Its being kinda rough I think. If I do candle them how long is too long out of the incubator. I can do them fast but I have 10 to worry about. Thank you so much to every one!

stay cool, let it do it's thing :) Even if you take it out it won't have much interest in food, it will just play with it. I think having a chick in there would encourage the others to hatch. Could be wrong, but it seemed like once the 1st one came (around 5:30pm) 2nd one hatched around 11pm) then after that they all started coming out. The only time I cwould take it out is if it had a cord attached still and I'd dip it in iodine , or keep it out if the others are pecking at it. If you see them rocking no need to candle. Read Sally Sunshine's hatching 101 and assisted hatching articles a few times then make your decision :)

No new pips is ok then? The 10 still in there are showing no signs of pipping. And its going crazy lol. Its rolled 2 eggs clear across the incubator! Gen9 you are really helping to keep me calm through this, I appreciate it so much. My last 2 hatches went so badly that I think I'm just waiting for everything to go wrong.

Aww I understand. I usually go with my gut, my last hatch and this one I kinda just did it off what knowledge I gathered and what I experienced. If you don't see any egg movements I would candle them & check. Just make sure you're in a steamy bathroom. Did you find out what went wrong the last 2 hatches? July was my first hatch, I'm now rolling into August, then I'll be done until spring. I was brooding chicks that I bought in February, & I really didn't like that even though we have pretty mild winters where I live

My first hatch was back in march and 4 out of 20 hatched but I had to help them all because they kept getting shrunk in the membrane. 2 were normal and 2 had curled toes and none lived longer than 10 days :-( my next hatch was a week ago with 6 quail eggs and probably would have gone ok accept the eggs in my incubator started out under a broody who gave up right before lockdown for the quail. Go figure right:? Humidity went out of control again and I think the 2 quail that tried to hatch drowned. 7 of the eggs in my incubator were very expensive so I figured it was worth the risk to add them to the incubator. Plus I have a husband in one ear reminding me how much they cost and a 4 year old in the other demanding babies lol. Very stressful. How're your peeps doing?
