Settin chicken eggs tonight! 8-4-11

The way I see it, it's not gonna hurt anything to leave them in there longer. If you take them out or crack them open to see, they're gonners. It took mine three days before it hatched and now he's doing great.

I had one that pipped yesterday morning and just hatched about 3am this morning. It seems like the most eggs hatch when I'm not home or not looking.

I've still got about 17 eggs in the incubator (actual due date is today, the others were early) and I'm planning on leaving them in there all day today and tomorrow. If absolutely no changes are seen then I guess I'll take em out after that (I've got more eggs that need to go in ASAP). But I mean NO changes, not a single egg pipped or wiggling. If one pips or one is trying then I'll wait longer for the rest.

Finally, I have 2 babies finally out 2 more to go, but last one hasn't even pipped and other one still wiggling but no more pip progress. It took them over 12 hours from pip to zip. I think they only started again cause I shined the flashlight on them to see if they were still wiggling this morning. It still amazes me how those buggers fit in the egg and can even pip being squished like that!!

I had a cochin chick that pipped yesterday morning and it didn't hatch until 3am this morning. I told my boyfriend if it hadn't done anything this morning that I was going to attempt to help it. I'm sure glad I didn't have to and the baby is fine.

Ok now I'm a little confused. lol.

I was so excited when my Wheaten Maran egg hatched....but the chick is black? Definately not wheaten maran. But what could it be? I've pm'd the lady I got them from to see if she has an idea.

I went and did some errands and came back and still no progress on the 3rd egg. So I opened it more where it had pipped to take a peek. When I did it was wiggling but it couldn't move because the inner lining had stuck to it's head so it couldn't finish pipping. So I got out a q-tip and moistened it with water to get lining wet and helped peel back lining until I got it's head out and then put it back into incubator to push it's self out. I should've just taken it out of egg completly but I wanted to make sure it was finished absorbing it's yoke sack. So it ended up drying to the bottom half of baby and I had to do the whole process over again to get it out. But it is in with the other 2 now and all seem fine. I did candle the last egg that had no pips and it was no longer moving and liquid was moving all over and it didn't look normal, so I opened it and found that it was dead and it only had 1 eye and a very crooked beak. So I got 3 out of 4 bantam cochins.

Now I'll wait for the guineas to lockdown next week.

OK its been 24 hours since the first wiggle, and no pips or wiggles at all today

Should I candle?

I dont plan on busting open ANY eggs until it reaches a deadline where there is just obvious nothing is going to hatch.

I did get rid of some eggs that have been in there since the 4th that havent done anything. I opened them and only one had a baby, and it had been dead a long time. it was only a few days along when it died it looked like.

I just need to know how long after the first wiggles should I start to worry if no more wiggles or pips. If one would just wiggle or a small pip then I could stop worrying and maybe get some sleep..

MommaBugg: I am no expert but when I put mine in lockdown I noticed them wiggling that day, but they were also in a turner so I wouldn't have seen them wiggle there before lockdown. Then I had all 3 pip by next day. Same thing with the last chickens that I hatched although they didn't mess around they pipped and zipped in no time. Both chickens I hatched pipped next day after I put them in lockdown. Altough these little buggers took forever and I was getting nervous. I candled mine, and put them right back quick, I made sure they still had movement and held it up to my ear to see if I heard peeping or tapping, I did make sure there were no pips in any eggs first. I don't know if you should though but I did it.

So do you think that if theyre big enough to wiggle the egg theyre ready to hatch? Also if theyre wiggling should I be able to hear them peeping and chirping?
