So you weren't around for Charley, Francise and Ivan? That was the worse. We live on the Gulf Coast of Central Florida and had no power for 5 days during Charley, had it for a few days and then Francise came along and another 3 days without. Ivan wasn't too bad, the power only went out for a few hours.I was lucky enough to find a generator for Francise but it didn't run the AC, just the household lights and fans. Looks like a few of us are in line for Isaac. I hope he decides to take a turn and head out to open waters.
Charley, Katrina & Wilma gave us sum strong wind & rain...Ivan did do sum damage...nuttin like Andrew!!...moved outta Homestead in 2006 to Miami til 2009...then back on the road for work (Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia) then back to Interlachen, Florida last year...but no hurricanes!....got lucky!!

Been without electric & water for weeks....but I rather go without it in the heat from a hurricane than in the cold from an Ice Storm!!

Now here in south central Texas....& no threat of hurricanes r blizzards here!!...woohoo!!
My eggs had broken cell AND were scrambled. I found information about the loose cells and you have a chance if you keep them upright in egg cartons not moving them for the first 7 days. In my case were blue eggs so I was hopping I was wrong and they were ok. I candled every few days and nothing I left them in the battor until hatch day knowing there was no development. When I did the eggtopsy they were totally scrambled and no development at all.
If yours are not scrambled you have a chance. just leave them upright in cartons for 5 to 7 days and then start moving them inside the egg carton just rising one side each turn.
Hope it helps. And hope yours hatch strong and healthy.
Thanx....I have all my eggs in cartons....but kinda concern when lock down day comes...I normally put them on their side in a coffee filter for each egg.
Think Im goin to have to let these Phoenix eggs stay in the carton & hope they hatch!

ISAAC storm moved away so we are just waiting heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning. Seems that is not visiting Florida also. I'm so glad and happy. I was so worried with the incubation, but now I'm prepared for future times. Hope the rain don't damage the electric system .

Tomorrow I'll candle (day 7).

But the temperatures had been steady between 98.5 and 101. Most of the time in 99.4. When they arrived I saw on most of them no air cell damage but still I'm turning them in the eggs cartons in the upright position. I candled a few at day 3 and saw good development so tomorrow at day 7 I hope to see good progress...

its only day 4 for me but i could'nt resist candeling them :)
next to the 15 Serama i had put 3 of my silkied Serama eggs in the brooder and of the Silkied, 2 are fertile
from the ones i got from Great Britan i can only tell on one for sure that it is actually developing
so now i wait until day 7 and candle again, but even if it stays only with this one beeing fertile and it hatches, i am happy :)

btw i found something much better then Flashlights for candeling, wich is a free app for the smartphone called LED Flashlight
i think it is much brighter then these flashlights and because the light is so small there is no need to cover around the egg to see better :)

Hello to all again!! been a while. it helps me with the patience issue to stay away from the computer. I candled today a whole day late, lol(set on the 15th)!!! I only candled 24 (?) of 42. all of the ones i candled so far were shipped eggs. of the 24 i candled 5 were obviously bad, no development showing when candled. I cracked 'em to make sure and nothing there. I'll wait a few hours to candle the rest. I also have to get the weights on all the good ones, maybe tomorrow.

the ones that were bad looked like they never started, of the other 19 eggs that i did candle 1 or 2 may have been bad but it wasn't so obvious so i kept them in there...we'll see how the other 18 do (6 backyard mix and 12 shipped).

I candled 2 days ago and out of 15 shipped eggs 5 are developing and 4 are a maybe. the rest are clear. I think those started to develop and then died. Maybe I'm wrong so Im giving them time. I'll check again at lockdown. The double yolk has only one yolk developing. I don't know if I should terminate the incubation of this egg or if I should continue just to see what happens. Good luck everyone

i candled the rest (18) a few minutes ago... the backyard mix... out of six, my wife cracked two (we never did fix the egg turner, it keeps getting stuck). of those two one wasn't developing the other had a fully formed chick inside but we couldn't save it...backyard mix down to four very promising looking eggs, except for the fact that she put two in upside down the last time she turned them (after cracking the other two). hopefully those two will make it. of the other 12 shipped eggs 1 was a dud but it was hard to tell if 2 or 3 others were good (chocolate colored eggs).

in total we are down to 34 total eggs, we started with 42. one of the backyard mix (6 total) didn't look like it developed. of the shipped eggs all of the bad ones were duds with no development, I was unable to determine the health of 4 or 5 of the shipped eggs. we are down to a total of 34 eggs in the incubator with 4 or 5 of those possibly being bad eggs. see you all again in 7 days when we candle again before lockdown.

I candled our 4 eggs tonight - temptation got the best of me, and I'm glad.
Two are wiggling around alot. One egg was clear and I took it away from the broody.
The last egg I had to stare at for a VERY long while to detect the slightest movement.
It looks like it has a tiny air pocket on the top wide part of the egg and a huge air pocket at the small pointy end.
Not sure about it, almost called it a quitter until I saw the faintest shadow moving.
