Setting 41 on 6-15, 7-8, 7-31, and 8-23 feel free to join in at any time

The black spot doesn't look like it's attached to the chick. It's up near the air cell and looks to be surrounded by fluid or space. I'll snap a pic tonight when I candle.

Could very well be a clot. Either from handling tearing a blood vessel, or from chick acrobatics. I've seen it, as long as it's not growing should not be an issue.

My first hatch from this set. Interestingly, it is the youngest egg I set, being laid the morning I put the eggs in the bator. 4 other pips atm.
Congrats on your first chick of the hatch

Thanks walnut. That's the best way to describe what it looks like, a small blood clot.

Are they popping like pop corn over there?? :)

I am trying to restrict myself to checking up only once per hour. Then I check the bator for new pips or chicks, and check on the 3 week olds in with the 7 week olds.

So, no new pips or chicks. Meanwhile, the 3 week olds have taken up position in exactly the same safe spot the 7 week olds used when they first went into the run. Funnily, its right against the mesh wall separating the flocks, so everyone is able to get a good look at the youngsters. When I just checked, nobody was bothering them. I have no idea if they have figured out food and water in there yet, or if they're even being allowed to wander in that direction. While I watched, they were just milling around by themselves (as you would expect from The 3 Musketeers!)

2nd hatch at 6:30pm (2 hours ago). They are hatching in order according to when they first pipped...so far, and the youngest eggs are so far hatching first. I do have a 6 day old egg amongst my first 8 pips, its pip #5, so it may hatch over night. I can't log hatch time overnight, so the data gets all messed up, but at least I can log some. I will be taking dry hatchlings out in the morning and transferring them to the brooder...all at one time. I have been removing hatched egg shells as I see them, so this isn't a lockdown. But my bator recovers in minutes, so I don't think I will shrink wrap anyone. Temperatures holding steady around 100.5F, but I have adjusted the thermo on the bator to do that. Essentially the humidity has been dropping, I will likely top up before going to bed tonight. It is now around 60%. When I top up I will lower the temperature .5F to compensate, as the temperature appears to rise with the higher humidity.
