Oh no!! What happened? :hugs

2nd hatch at 6:30pm (2 hours ago). They are hatching in order according to when they first pipped...so far, and the youngest eggs are so far hatching first. I do have a 6 day old egg amongst my first 8 pips, its pip #5, so it may hatch over night. I can't log hatch time overnight, so the data gets all messed up, but at least I can log some. I will be taking dry hatchlings out in the morning and transferring them to the brooder...all at one time. I have been removing hatched egg shells as I see them, so this isn't a lockdown. But my bator recovers in minutes, so I don't think I will shrink wrap anyone. Temperatures holding steady around 100.5F, but I have adjusted the thermo on the bator to do that. Essentially the humidity has been dropping, I will likely top up before going to bed tonight. It is now around 60%. When I top up I will lower the temperature .5F to compensate, as the temperature appears to rise with the higher humidity.

Yay!! Sounds great so far! I have an all plastic dome (Brinsea mini) on my incubator. So I can literally sit eye level and watch the hatch....I get caught up all day watching them hatch! And when no ones hatching, I just stare at pips!!! Lol. Can't wait for an update in the morning!

How did that happen? I'm guessing they were under a broody? So sorry! :hugs

On 2 of my eggs the air cells have completely drawn down! I'm not even in lockdown until 9pm tomorrow. But I think I may get internal pips overnight!! I'm locking down in the morning, regardless. I'll post some pics. I can only post 2 pics at a time on my phone for some reason. So the first is the draw down I saw this afternoon and the second is that black spot I was talking about. That egg hasn't drawn down yet. And it's a darker shell so it's hard to make out. The spot is right under the air cell in the middle.

Sorry, it looks to dark to make out. Once I loaded it, I could tell how hard it is to see. I don't think I can get a better pic. You can't see in that egg unless I candle in the dark.

So its not a race...;-] Chicken eggs hatch in 21 days, getting them to hatch early isn't necessarily a good thing. And, your pictures don't depict the expected "draw down". The air sac should draw down distinctly in one place only, not broadly across the egg. The draw down will come from the existing sac down one side of the egg significantly, your pictures don't show that. Please don't think I am criticizing, I am only trying to say what I have heard.

I'm not wanting them to hatch early! They are pea eggs and actually take 28 days to hatch. ;). I guess if you could see a before and after it would have been helpful. In my experience (which isn't that vast) that's what my chicken eggs look liked when the air cell drew down on them right before hatch. The only way I actually know that is because I can candle through my incubator window during lockdown. In the first picture, You see where the last pencil line is on the egg. I made that line the night before last. I think that is a dramatic increase in the air cell size? Don't you? Again, the second one has not done that yet. I was surprised when I saw the egg was drawing down (IMO, it is) and I don't even have their brooder ready, so I hope they don't hatch too early!! :)

I can see it a little, I think. I'd say Walnut is right. I bet it won't cause a problem.

And I think what he was trying to say about drawing down is where I've seen the air cell curve along the edge, in addition to just getting larger. I can candle thru the window too and the cell will sorta look "droopy" from that side angle. Not taut like yours still is. But it definitely has increased greatly since your last pencil marking! I seriously can't wait to see these peas!

FYI, I have unsubscribed, so have fun.
