Setting and hatching in December? Come join us! - Holiday Season hatch-along

So, our first hatch went pretty well - two maran chicks, three lavender orpingtons, some barred rock and some buff orp/barred crosses. One maran has twisted toes, 13 are a week old today and chirping, mosh pit diving, and eating a bunch. Six more hatched yesterday that were put in on the 9th. All the chicks are amazing. The wings are coming in and they get taller every day. We converted a travel trailer into a second coop just for babies. We doubled our flock in three weeks! Put two dozen more in the incubator yesterday.

Thanks for all ya'lls advice.
Kat
COOL! Travel trailer home!

Day 22 no chicks for me incubator (brinsea Eco mini) has died. not heating.Am upset I just got this in November.second attempt 0% success. only one egg(of 3) had started to develop, but died early. I was unable to see into them. because they where very dark. need to find thread to find out what i am doing wrong.
If they were clear may be infertile .What was your humidity and heat? Did the heat go over 101 ?I dont know much about the brinsea mini Does it automatically ajust the heat?
I would set my humidity at 40-45.then last 4 days 65-75 no lower
Keep heat as close to 99.5 as yeu can and put rocks in it as heat sincs i have read this not done it but it should work pretty well to even the heat out as the more eggs yu set the beeter the tempo stays...same principal.I have mine in a closet too to keep drafts off
.I didnt hatch any the first two either but did these things and finally success
Actually if you bought a Genesis like i did when i got mad at no hatches it would help tremendously but i also did the same as above to the other bator i have A hovabator and it acted much better too with those changes . i got chicks.
Were your eggs shipped? if so its the bouncing that kills them and will make them die even later in the hatch .Get some local eggs and try
Sorry you have had such problems It is so frustrating..

Would love to hatch during winter but unfortunately temps here have dropped to below freezing and the girls aren't laying well so looks like we'll have to wait til spring :(

i'm not getting eggs off ebay. I had my mom start feeding black sunflower seed. even while it's freezing she is now getting 5 eggs a day. during the fall she was only getting 3 eggs a day. :D
So now i have 3 in my incubator going into lock down, 6 in the incubator just starting (they'll be fine). :D

Well shipped eggs aren't very strong and when i get them from other local people they come full of bacteria and get blood rings within the first few days of incubation. I mean one or two maybe 3 eggs getting that fine but when i get 3 dozen and ALL develop blood rings there is something wrong.
out of the last two times i got shipped eggs I only have 1 chick. that was one expensive chick and it better be a girl!!

14 more moved to the brooder this morning. :) The double yoker quit about half way it looks like, tho both embryos were developing. The good news is both turkeys and the lone duck are all pipped and doing well in the hatcher :)
