setting eggs 5/10.

setting 2 batches of eggs. 13 are fresh eggs about half from a friend of mix breed and the others are our SLWs.

the other 'bater has 17 eggs from the friend's broody hen. not sure when she started setting or if other hens added to her clutch, or much of anything about them except all are mixed breed. going to candle them tonight to see if i can get a ball park hatch date for the oldest.

anyone else have a 31st hatch date?

I put 20 mixed breed eggs in tonight. They are for my inlaws so I don't have to take care of chicks when done.

up date my best guess is the eggs i got from the broody are 9 at 1 day, 1 at 2 days, 3 at 3 days 1 at 4 days ,and 3 at 5 days so i'm gonna have a hatch range from around the 24 to the 3.

I'll join in. I set late in the day tuesday, so I figure most of my eggs will hatch on Wed, 5/30. I'm doing the hatch at the local elementary school.


I let the kids name them. We've got 3 coronation sussex, one silver sussex, one amaucana mix, an olive egg, and then that darker brown one is either a welsummer or possibly a barnvelder mix. The only ones that I know exact parentage on are the sussex eggs. The others were chosen because the egg was pretty. LOL

i'm just glad some teachers still do science experiments like hatching eggs in school. need more teachers like that

Sphinx! Are we hatch buddies again? Very cool! AND, we named our eggs this time, too!

We are hatching 44 eggs ~22 eggs at my son's school, 3 OEs under a broody (her first time) and 19 eggs at home. Most of my eggs (29) are BBS Orps, hoping for a Splash!! Cuckoo Marans eggs, 4? 3 Marans crosses, 3 more OEs at school and one lone Dorking.

I'm turning the eggs at home by hand and running a dry hatch. School has an automatic turner and they've added water for humidity.

Woohoo! Old friends to hatch with! I hope we all have a great hatch. As for me, I suspect that my perfect hatch last time was an anomaly, and something that won't happen often.

Good for you for hand turning your eggs, Blarney, that takes a lot of dedication.

Akashia, the teachers were thrilled for the opportunity (this hatch now is actually my third school hatch this spring, and I think I could've done more, except that school gets out). I think that there's rules in place that make it difficult sometimes. For example, our district has a rule that they can't have live animals in class. The principal has chosen to turn a blind eye to the hatched chicks that hung out in the school for a week. He actually thanked me for doing the activity.
