Setting eggs on 7/15/2011 anyone want to join me

Nothing yet though I think I saw an egg rock... day 20 here. Temperature dropped a bit, has been at 97 the past two days, not sure why the change all of a sudden. Had to quickly add hot water to up the humidity today, no pips, no cheeps... c'mon guys! You can do it!

So adorable! I went into lockdown today, or in the process of candling one last time, the guy pipped in my hand...Day 18 pipped and zipped, and popped in about an hour and 15 minutes....I had in an egg carton, and in a hurry added to much water for humidity, so he/she is now out and in the brooder, and eggs left put in a new carton...hope the little one makes it!

Death and devestation!

I had taken 2 eggs from the nests they smelled terrible and I didn't see anything when I candle them

I checked with Momma today been working double shift the last 4 days so hadn't had time.
I just went out and smelled something again found a dead chick under her with MAGGOTS!!!

a terrible gooey substance was all over all the eggs!! I felt like I had no choice I did a water test, 9 eggs sank like rocks
4 floated at the top and one wiggled
Momma had maggots on her chest,

I cleaned her and the eggs as best as I could and put her in a new nest. she seemed very happy to have the new clean nest and settled right down on her eggs

I can only hope that the chicks left will live and Momma will be ok

I can't believe they died because of my neglect

I don't think I'll hatch again for a while.

Likely what happened is that she crushed it on accident and trampled it, hard to say what's going on in those little chicken brains.





On another note, just got word that aparently I have a whole TON of chicks to go home to, too many to count, so my roommate counted the eggs that have NOT hatched yet and only got to 2!

Thanks Dan, I think they were supposed to hatch tomorrow, she moved to the new nest quite easily I think she will be ok

Chicken math with Dipsy!


Ordered:

12 eggs

Recieved:

26 eggs

--One with a hairline crack in it immediately removed

20 eggs make it to lock down

--5 blood rings

18 eggs Hatch!

2 eggs still in the bator, 1 with a pip and cheeping like crazy, 2nd not pipped, I'll candle / float it if it's still not pipped in a day or two or whenever the other one hatches out!
