setting eggs on Thurs. Hatch date Feb 4th-who's with me??

I told my DH that we were candling tonight. He asked me if that was a date? and laughed. But he's very meticulous and will probably do it better. I'm guessing I should turn off the turner on the Brinsea. How long does it take to candle 17 silkie eggs and 10 BCM. Can I leave the cover off. Do you mark the questionable ones.

Hi Joanne! I usually have marked the ones that are good when I candled on my past 2 hatches. I'll put a question mark on the ones I'm not sure of until I can better tell. Then I will be able to just check those ones again a few days later. That way I can get rid of any that arent any good. Sometimes its hard to tell with really dark eggs, so just do the sniff test lol.

Well, I candled and so far I can't see a thing in the BCMs, but I wasn't expecting to. They didn't smell.

Now for the DRUM ROLL

Of the 17 silkie eggs, 3 looked clear. I could see a bulls eye and faint veins in the others. They didn't smell either.
The temp was back to 99.6 in less than 5 min after closing the cover the last time. When do you usually candle again?

I candled yesterday

Results as follows:

Jan 6th set of 9 eggs
2 Light Brahma/EE
2 pure Light Brahma
are viable and show growth, 5 were infertile

I will move to hatcher & lockdown night of the 24th


Jan 13th set of 12 eggs

6 Light Brahma/Barred Rocks
2 Pure Light Brahma

I dropped and spattered one LB/BR that was developing... so that would have been 9 doing well
3 were infertile

I will move to hatcher & lockdown Jan 31st
