setting eggs on Thurs. Hatch date Feb 4th-who's with me??

Okay, expert advice needed. What do you use to candle dark eggs like marans etc. And when you candle - do you candle from the top or the bottom? I have a small LED flashlight. I have trouble looking through silkie eggs. The clear ones are obvious, but I cant see clearly into the others, I candled at the bottom, because I didn't want to flip the egg over or on its side. Its day 10 - should I remove clear ones. Thanks.

I have a home made candeler DH and I made. We took a coffee can and cut a hole in bottom large enough for a light cord to go threw. it fits a 75 whatt bulb then we cut out a circle piece of wood with a hole about the size of a silkie egg. We duck taped that to the top of can. SO I plug it in and it sits on table where bator is.I pull eggs out in the same way they are in turner-the light is so bright I can see through any dark egg:) AT day 10 if there are obvious clear ones-I mean totally clear out they go. I had day 10 Sat and took out 8...If you have a small light hold the egg pointy end down and put the light on the very bottom looking up into it-you should be able to see everything:)

Results from this weekend, first candle. Ones that say alive...were jumping LOL!!! Hope all is going well with everyone else!

I have a little pen light and its works ok, but sometimes its hard to see everything. The d uccle eggs are easy to see, but my brown ones are a little more difficult sometimes.

Just candled 8 of my original 9 eggs (this is my first attempt at incubating eggs!). I have 7 definite little swimmers in there! One is a bit clear, but not sure, and one I tossed a few days ago, it was clear with a big crack in the shell. I'm going to try and take some pics of the little guys tonight.

Here's a video of one of the embryos jumpin around in the egg

Here's some pics of my homemade incubator. It's based off of Miss Prissys cooler bator. I call it the Igloobaor.

Here's my simple egg turner. It's a small piece of luane board with a 1" dowel rod screwed to the bottom. I drilled four small holes and glued four small dowels to fit in the holes in the egg carton I placed on top. It works pretty well, and it was cheap!
