yeah Alex-what 4 eggs have moving babies?? Oh sometimes they may not move-sleeping -but the next time you candel theres a moving baby:) Id call it lock up too..Actually I think it should be called :"Ducktape the incubators hands time" LOL...

What do you guys do when a chick hatches, but the others haven't yet? Do you let it in there until you are sure the hatching is over, or do you quickly pull it out once it has fully dried? I had to fill my bator over two days, so the first four are due to hatch next friday, but the other three re due to hatch next saturday.

Thanks,
Dave

From what I have learned, chicks are good for up to 3 days after they hatch. But I would imagine if you can reach in there quickly without the lid open to long, the saturday hatch would be ok.

24 hours MAX let the eggs that are due to hatch next friday hatch and dry and then remove in abotu 12 hours into a heated brooder then you have an empty bator for the next 3:)

3 days? thats way too long in a bator after hatching. 24 hours is more than enough time-most people dont even come close to waiting that long. 12 hours after hatching is long enough as long as they are drying without problems.Make sure you dip their beaks in their water bowl too-so they know what it is and where to find it...

Hi Natalie
All of my eggs are the Buff Orpingtons. They will have their own coop and run and I can keep a rooster and breed them if I want to. That same egg that I don't see moving is the one that has the ? on it since the beginning. It looks like it is growing but I never get to see it moving. Maybe it sleeps alot. It is going into lock-up no matter what. That's funny about Ducktape the hands! I have been pretty good about leaving the eggs alone. Better than my mom! I am going to have to put mom in lock-up when it's time for them to hatch! STAY AWAY FROM MY EGGS! ha ha. Sorry to hear that you are sick. Feel better soon ok?

We made a cool hatcher out of an old aquarium. It works great. Mom just hatched 11 out of 12 in it.

I still have my favorite EE from your eggs. She really loves me. I didn't want you to think I like the new eggs better than yours!

First timer here. I figured you would at least want to wait until the last three hatched before you open the bator.

They would be dead

haha... the bator can be opened to remove chicks swiftly..You wait until the ones that hatched out are drying and grab in groups...I wait until there is a lull..5 may hatch and other eggs may be pipping-Ill grab the 5 put in brooder-then wait until more hatch and dry to remove...you did make me laugh though:)
