Congrats! I'm hoping for a pip tomorrow. Just one..that's all I ask, then we usually get going from there..blues and splashes expected also...Marans.
so far just the one out and 2 more pipped...These are the eggs that I tripped on and knocked the incubator into the wall and the eggs went flying all over. I am suprised to even get the one to hatch.....I dont know if the second one will...the shell is comming off but there is no pip through the membrane...and now the chick is quiet. I think possibly the membrane was to strong and it suffocated??? I am not sure. I do have more eggs set too so we will see what happens with the next batch. JEN
I wasn't expecting chicks until Monday. Imagine our surprise when we were peeped awake this morning (Sun) by two chicks. Since this morning, three more have hatched, with another 5 having pipped. There is another that has pipped, but hasn't done anything all day. It does have fluid leaking out of it now. Should I do anything or just let nature take it's course?
Nine of 21 eggs have hatched. 8 of the chicks are in the brooder; the ninth one is still a little wobbly and the others are so active I'm leaving it in the 'bator longer to strengthen up.
The second 'bator doesn't even have a pip in any of its eggs yet. I wonder if I got the days off? I know I was surprised when the first one had eggs starting to hatch on Friday!
Well I finally ended up with a total of 4 chicks...2 splash, 1 partridge, 1 cuckoo. There is 1 cuckoo egg still alive so it may still hatch who knows...There was one egg that pipped but never pipped the internal membrane and when I opened it up it was pretty wet in there so I think my humidity was to high..thats why the others didnt make it too I am sure. I just lowered the humidity on the incubator with other eggs in it...I was keeping it at around 50% durring incubaton and I think that is a bit high for silkie eggs so I am lowering it to 40-45% and we will see how that goes.
thoes poor eggs didnt have a chance...I should have known it was bad luck when I fell on them.
Congrats to those who have chicks starting to hatch....none of mine have started as of yet. Day 21 is today! Please, please please!!!! I cant sleep and keep checking every five minutes! It's been a long 21 days!
