Setting eggs today (3/30) anyone else???

Sassafrass is a very cute name!!! Im glad she likes you lol my chicks have been climbing all over me and then poop when they are on me instead of when the are walking around the coop lol
I passed the final test for drivers ed!!! I will be getting my lerners in oct. haha hopefully and only if I pass the driving portion lol :)
I think Spots and Madea are males and no I can not keep them because of our stupid nieghbors! Some liked Braveheart when we had him but the others were childish and couldnt enjoy the songs in the morning lol my Memaw and Pops will be taking one rooster and 4-5 hens. We are going to give them the chicks when they are around 9-12 weeks old. I thought by then they will be old enough to be without Robin. I think they will miss her terribly since my grandparents live in VA and Robin will be staying with us in NC but hey maybe we can bring Robin up or something to visit lol probably not though hahaha but never say never right? lol
If Spots is a rooster I will be sad because he/she is my baby and has become quite attached to me. (Spots is the one that is white with black spots lol and Madea is the Barred rock baby lol)
God did create a perfect design, its amazing to watch these lovely little babies run around and it makes you think about how amazing He is and all the things He has made! Each day God amazes me with new things to look at!!! Like wild flowers, different birds, ect. I JUST ADORE HIM SOOO MUCH!
Oh im almost done with Catching fire. I read on the way to the orthodonics to get spacers so that Mon I can get my braces!!! Many prayers needed! I have everything you can posably have wrong with your teeth lol cross bite, over bight, and over jet lol its funny because my moms friend said that she couldnt tell that I had any of that lol. Ok back to Catching Fire lol Im on chapter 26 so almost to the end lol. Oh my gosh they are pilming the movie in downtown raliegh and so me and my friend are going to audition for extras lol I live close to raliegh so no problem lol

Hopefully the summer will pass quickly, with many other activities and October will be here before you know it.

I the mean time you have braces to adjust to. Many prayers for you. Some day you will be glad that you had all those not visible issues corrected. They can cause bigger issue later in your life. After the brace period of your life you will be thankful. Now we pray.

I'm sorry that you can't keep your cockerel babies. We are selling most, if not all, of our little guys so I'm trying not to get attached, but when we walk into the feed room and the chicks hear us and start peeping, chirping, and in the case of the boys, testing their crowing, SOOOOOO cute! It is hard to think about them going somewhere else to grow up.

We had 25 chicks hatch, 2 pipped, but died before zipping, and 7 more never pipped. When I removed them and checked the eggs, one was rotten, pu, really stinky. The other 6 and the 2 that pipped then died, were really wet, looks like they drown. I feel so bad and so responsible. First I checked to make sure DH had not added water at lockdown, thinking I would not, but he did not. So the amount of water that I added was too much. I also wonder if the number of eggs hatching added even more humidity than usual. I will make adjustment the next time, but that won't be for awhile. We have to get our extras sold, and get the ones we are keeping settled. Some of this hatch are so different than any others in the 2 other hatches. It is going to be so hard to decide who stays and who goes.

Yay for fuzzy butts, those who stay and those we must part with as well.

Please let me know if you get to be an extra in the movie. How exciting!

Thank you!
Yes the braces will keep me pretty occupied for a while haha mon is right around the corner and its starting to get to me lol I was excited but now Im a little scared haha its ok God will be with me, Im sure :) Thank you for the prayers!
It is very hard having to sell the cuties! I think my friend is going to take one but maybe two so thats good that I will be able to see them every now and then :) I hope your babies find great homes!!!
Its not your fault for the chicks passing, we all do things that have a bad result sometimes. They are up in Heaven runing around with my baby chick that passed as well a while back (different hatch). Im sure they are all having a blast haha
I finished Catching Fire and yes you were right! Too many twists and turns!!! lol Im on Mocking Jay.
I will deffenantly tell you if my friend and I are extras, the auditions are right before they start filming so I have to look into it a little more and start practicing hehe
I hope if I do get to be an extra that I will be seen haha its ok if not though! Its a great opportunity!
Yay for the fuzzy butts!!!
Have a blessed week!

oh I might try to post pics of the chick and me with my braces hehe

I've bee praying for you today Kelsey, that God would be with you and help you to adjust quickly to your braces.

We moved 25 one week old chicks to the brooder coop. They are in the "cage", so the older chicks, now 2 months and the 10 from Mama SS hatch can't bother them. They were so happy. They jumped, and flew and were little explorers checking out every inch of the cage. They moved from 3 plastic totes to a cage that is 4ft x 10ft. Happiness for fuzzy butts.

We have 4 turkey eggs pip today. Thankfully I did not drown them. We are looking forward to seeing them. Maybe tonight for one of them, the rest will be tomorrow.

Our next hatch we are going to try to hatch fertile eggs from Trader Joe's. All of our hens lay brown or green eggs and DH decided we'd try for some white egg layers. We will wait a few weeks to get some chicks sold and figure out who is staying. Should be an interesting experiment.

I'm reading a book by Karen Kingsbury called Take 1. Karen is a Christian author and the book follows 2 former missionaries who are producing a movie. They were talking about getting college students for extras for the movie and a couple of the characters in the book were going to auditions. Reminded me of you.

I continue to pray for you and ask that you remember our neice, J, who is having her seventh baby tomorrow. The baby is in the wrong position (laying sideways) and if the baby doesn't turn tonight the doctors will have to turn the baby before she delivers, very painful, and stressful, or she will have to have a C-section. With 6 children at home she wants to avoid the surgery if possible. We are praying for a safe delivery, healthy baby and mom. Thanks for your prayers.

The weather is warm during the day and cool at night. My favorite time of year.

Have a good week full of grace.

Yay for fuzzy butts!

Thank you for the prayers!!! He was definatly with me Mon. I had a lot of pain Mon. afternoon but Im okay now just sore and having to learn how to eat and drink with my palate expander.

I will deefinatly pray for your niece!!! Im a day late reading this so I hope everything went great! I will continue to pray for her and her family.
I will look up Take 1 for sure! Mocking Jay isnt as good as the last two but Im still going to read it just so I know what happens! haha
We have had similare weather with the warm days and cold nights :) we are having a server storm right now. My mom and I will be going to the Homeschool conference tomorrow! So exciting!
Thank you again for praying for me and I will be praying for your family:)
Oh, did your grandson pass driver ed??? I hope he did the final exam was difficult. Well for NC anyways haha

Yay for the fuzzy butts!

We have four new turkey poults hatched yesterday. They are so cute, wobbly, and sweet. I want clean out the incubator and let it rest for awhile. We have a large garden this year and only one third of it is planted so far.

Several of the baby chicks slipped through the fence into the area with the older chicks. They were piled in a corner behind a milk crate, scared. They couldn't figure out how to get back. We got them back to the cage and placed some boards around the base so they are safe and sound. Drama in the coop again!

Our niece and her husband had a baby girl. The baby turned on her own, but she was breech so they had to do a C-section. Everyone is healthy and healing, and I thank you for your prayers.

Our youngest son had a palate expander when he was in high school. He has really nice teeth now. I pray that you adjust, I know that you will get the eating and drinking back on track quickly.

We also homeschooled our sons. I always looked forward to conferences. We had a very active group in the central Ohio area where we lived at the time. It was a good time for our family.

I have to correct the name of the book I told you about. It is Take One by Karen Kingsbury. I know, not that different, but if you try to look it up it would help to have the correct title.

Our grandson did pass driver's ed. He didn't think the test for Ohio was too bad. He is anxious for August to be here.

We are hosting the family Memorial Day gathering this year. We have been trying to make a plan for the chicken who normally have free run of the property. It will be too hot to make them stay in the barn coop so we are putting up temporary fencing. We have some that will not obey the fence, but we can deal with a few, and try to control the crowd.
Yay for fuzzy butts!

Im glad she turned on her own! I know she didnt want a c-section but Im glad they are both doing great. :)

My mom has been homeschooling me and my sister the past 2 years. I will be a freshmen this upcoming year so very exciting! Homeschooling is awesome!!!!!

Your poor chicks haha they were scared of the big "kids" hahaha im glad they are ok though lol

Our garden has produced some surprise vegies this year so far but thats alright. Our squirls demolished the brocaly (sp?).haha

So Im looking forward to pretty teeth but this thing hurts really bad. Its really hard for people to understand somethings Im saying right now but Im learning how to talk again haha

Im happy for your grandson! Cant wait till Oct!!!!! My family jokes about being scared when I start driving but I think Im good at it haha I get to practice on my moms friends 80 acres.
Yay for the fuzzy butts!!!

hunter109: I hope that you have a great hatch when you start to breed. How old are your chickens? How many do you have?

Kelsey:
Our hens chase the squirrels off the property. It is so funny to watch. They have treed squirrels that make it to a tree and not let them down until the hens are distracted, usually by food. And the noise that they make while chasing or treeing the squirrels is louder than the egg song! Come to think of it I haven't seen a squirrel for weeks.

I came home from running some errands this morning and one of our 6 1/2 week old turkey poults was out with the chickens. When he heard my voice, he came running and went right back into the fenced run. He didn't have any wounds so I hope the chickens were good to him. DH was on another part of the property working on the garden.

I had forgotten about the speech changes with the palate extender. After homeschooling for five years it was our son's first year at a Christian school. He wanted to play basketball and also played volleyball all four years. The palate extender during the first year at a new school, only knowing a few other students was a challenge, but the kids were great, our son relaxed and laughed at himself. He did have to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for awhile, or after an adjustment.

We don't have 80 acres, but we also told our grandson that he could drive on the property. It helps to get used to handling a vehicle without danger to others on the road. Yep, we are also teasing him about us having to stay off of the road when he driving.
