I went into lockdown today! I found it all somewhat unsettling. I hated taking all the eggs out and leaving the lid off for a few minutes. But it's actually heating back up quite quickly. My humidity is at 60% and I think it's still going up so that's good. I took the vent plugs out. . . that's what I'm supposed to do, right? I'll be happy if just 2 of these babies hatch!

Yes I think 60-70% humidity is ideal and both plug vents out. I am still debating using the carton method or not.

What does everyone else think about the egg carton in lockdown?

I'm very excited about my olive eggs! The holes are over the 2 water troughs. That way I can get the aquarium tubing in there if I need to. Since this picture I've had to add 2 small containers of water (with rags in them) to get the humidity up. I think I'm all set now.

The reason I went with the cut down egg carton is because the eggs have been in this position for 18 days now. If I had hand turned my eggs with them on their side I would have let them hatch out on their sides. Just my little theory. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I was wondering how I was going to add more water once in lock down, great tip. I have been running about 42% with my troughs in the bottom full so I am sure I will have to add more containers and/or sponges.

I am so excited for this hatch. I will be sure to take a picture of my eggs right before lockdown also. Good luck.

We are still waiting to see for a few more days if we have any chicks growing...
My bulb burned out yesterday to candle the eggs... anyone ever used something besides an egg lume to candle the eggs? Wondering if I can do something makeshift to see what we have in there

I use a small LED maglite to candle my eggs.

As for the egg cartons, I cut mine down really low to be sure the chicks can get out without a problem.
