Setting eggs tonight! Anyone want to join me?

I will be setting eggs in about a week, my incubator will arrive on Saturday. Will be setting Buffs, Easter Eggers, Delawares and NH Reds.

I have bad news guys. My eggs aren't fertile. I candled about 75% of them and there are no veins or dark spots. I'm bummed about it, but it happens.

Sorry to hear that . How long have they been in?? Seems like only 4-5 days? Why don't you let them go another week or so to be sure??.......stan

I am leaving them till Saturday. Then if nothing I'm throwing them. I've hatched lots of chickens and I can already tell they aren't fertile.

LOL your question made my night! First of all I am doing this with my ten year old daughter who names rocks. It also helps to know where I am with turning the eggs. I divided the eggs in quarters and numberd the other 3 sides ex: Bob , 2 ,3 ,4. So far it works like a charm.

Bob is a mighty fine name. We will rename the chicks based on there personality or what they look like. We have not thought that far ahead. My husband did not even believe we were actually going to do this and HE built the bater. Then I had to explain we were PAYING MONEY for other people's eggs when we have about 4 dozen in the fridge. None of this makes sense, that is the beauty of it!!

BTW have you kissed the Blarneyeggs have you kissed the Blarney Stone?

I would love to see the webcam!! I am glad someone else names their eggs.

This is actually my first time naming eggs. The last two hatches I numbered them, and it got confusing on hatch. If egg #3 hatched first, is it Chick #1 or Chick #3? Of the 6 eggs that hatched last time, only chick #6 had the decency to hatch out in egg # order.

I need to figure out how to change my signature and add it there. I'm to the point where I'm putting my computer to sleep at night because my laptop hasn't been happy that it's been running 24/7. When this new hatch starts to pip, I'll take it off the chicks and onto the eggs.


I candled my eggs today with a dying flashlight, at about 3.5 day, and I'm fairly certain I saw development in all of them.

No, I've not had a chance to kiss the blarney stone -unlike my father, who kissed the stone and most definitely had 'the Gift of Gab'. I love that your daughter names rocks.
