Setting first eggs tomorrow - 3/23

I just did a quick candle and in a few if them I still see veins by the air cell...is this bad? Does this mean they aren't ready for lockdown yet? They are kicking around like crazy though...
If they're moving around I wouldn't worry. I haven't heard anything about veins near the air cell. Maybe you can make sure and watch those just in case they aren't positioned correctly and you have to help. There's a very good thread about assisted hatching, the most important point being not to help in almost all circumstances.

and also: There's a pip! A PIP! I'm so excited I can't even... it's my sweetheart's birthday and I need to make him a cake and set up a brooder and clean up the house and all I want to do is stare at the sweet baby pip!!

Well 13 have hatched so far. All the others have pipped, but they've been pipped since this morning...a couple will hatch out and then nothing for an hour or so... These last 5 are going to take forever

I candled mine and no movement :( I an really worried because my thermometer reads right at 99 but my digital says crazy temps like 102. Not sure which one to believe! Any ideas?

Put another thermometer in there! It's best to have a few different ones until you get 2 that are the same. Then believe those. If you're on a still air, 102 isn't bad. They actually suggest having them at 102.

BTW....my husband called me at work a couple hours ago. He said there are about 6 chicks running around in the bator. That's 9 total so far! I'll load pics when I get home!

Well which one do you trust more? Isn't there some way to test thermometers? I know I've heard of such a thing. The liquid in glass thermometers are almost never wrong though...so perhaps go with that? My digital and ? Analog! Whatever you call a non digital thermometer read the same...perhaps try a third thermometer and see what that one says...
How many days left til hatch for your eggs?

They will have veins until right before hatch, like literally hours before hatch, then the veins will dry up and the blood will go into the chick. Go ahead and put them in lockdown like planned.

I've still got 4 left to go...I don't see why they wouldn't make it, they have holes large enough for me to see inside the egg, but they're just sort of sitting there. Ohh the waiting.

I just dont know i have tried 5 different ones and the digital are all hotter (102-103) and the glass ones are the same temps (98-99)

That's really weird. I don't know what you should do.

I have a question myself... Once the chicks that have hatched are dry can I take them out or should I wait til all the eggs are finished hatching?

I have 4 eggs left so 14 fuzzy peepers trying to get around in there, and in the brinsea 20 it's quite cramped
