Setting my eggs tonight (April 10) Any tips?

Jeans eggs seem to be hardier. She sent me 18 and 14 have made it to D11. I'm excited about the lavenders. dak

Congrats on everyone's hatches!

I had 4 hatch out of 6, but one died.

I was checking on the hens and chicks and while I was my black hen heard it hatching under my white one and tried to take it. I think I set off the whole incident when I opened the box. She seemed to settle down, so I just closed the box to leave them alone, but when I came back about an hour later they had taken their chicks out to eat and drink and just left the last egg and the chick. It was dead when i found it, but I held it for an hour anyway, just hoping.

I was so sad, I should have left them alone, they were doing fine. The chicked wasn't damaged or anything, so I'm not exactly sure what happened. I checked the other two eggs today. One was not developed, but the other looked like it was at least close.
So now we have three chicks, healthy and bouncing around. I'm so mad at myself, though, it's hard to be happy.

The good thing is that my two hens are being great mommies to their three chicks.

Awww, sad but how could you know? Glad you have 3 healthy ones still. Don't beat yourself up about the other. Hugs!!

Well, to make myself feel better, I put a bunch of our flock's eggs in the bator... hope these turn out okay.... Anyone willing to start another hatch with me????

Sweet! Getting some more eggs from a local breeder next week, and in the meantime, will be collecting from my flock. Wish me luck, and I am sending good hatching vibes to the rest of you!!!!!!

I've got black Ameraucana 6+ coming Wed or Thurs, and 9 GL Cochins coming Fri. Let's get back on the horse that threw us! Oh, and more lavender coming next week. I WILL have the chickies I want.

Do we just keep this thread going?

Wow, i wanted lavenders SO bad, but they would have to be shipped from out of state, and you know how that goes......
