Setting my eggs tonight (April 10) Any tips?

anything within 1 degree would be normal(at least was for me), anything other might be your bator. I bought a digital thermostat (think it cost $70) and it was worth EVERY penny. I have over 7 dozen in it now and never have to check temp, now if I could come up with a turner it would be perfect

3 hatched... 2 doing well... one unfortunately had to be euthanized.....don't want to talk about it.

4 left, no pips.

The 2 that made it so far are 1 SL cochin and 1 GL cochin.

YAY! for all the chickies

Dak?? r u a vet? c-sec on ur dog.....??

as for hearing peeping in the shell, I held the eggs that were under my broody to me ear cause I wasn't sure about them. That's when I heard it. But also have heard some people talk about their eggs in the 'bator peeping w/o external pips.

as for lock down,

I tend to open the bator some times when theres a problem of some sort. I add more HOT water when I do and my humidity is around 80 when theres pips in there. all of my chicks have been really wet cept one.

apparentaly I'm doing something right, with a 12/12 hatch. Maybe it's the 'bator? did something right there too.

I need more caffine too. waiting for pics

well, I had to pull the chicks as I had some more eggs that were on day 18 that needed to go in. I decided to candle real quick....had 4 bad(one was too big to pip, took up the whole air cell), thought it was 5, and had 1 with definite movement. popped that one back in the bator and cracked the rest to be sure(I always carefully open the air cell, just in case). Some still had the yolk, the one was too big and then the last one. I popped it open and it was huge also, had no room to move. BUT my son just happened to walk up and as I pulled the shell away he said "wow, that one's still alive" and sure enough it was still breathing, although very slowly. There were no obvious issues(like the one I had last year that had it's brain on the outside

) so I left it in the bottom of the shell and put it in the bator. I don't know if anything else is wrong, but if it was just too big I hope it's ok. I am still waiting for the last one that is bopping around in the shell. I have a batch that I have to pop in the hatcher tomorrow too.....then a few days later.....then a few more days

Guilty as charged. CSU class of 2000. Just working very part-time due to my 3 year old. Plenty of time to mess with chickens.

The two babies are in the brooder. Didn't worry too much about quickly taking them out of the bator since the other 4 haven't pipped.

Have 3 Ameraucana that need to go into lockdown tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all the support and help everyone. Continued good luck!

Those of you who set on the 10th....How long are you going to wait to stop? I have about 6 eggs of 25 viable eggs not hatched yet, but am a little concered about the all ready hatched chicks!!!

I've heard others say not to touch them, but just checking to see when to call it quits on the last six....There hasn't been any activity from these, but I did have one hatch just about an hour ago....
