I have a white leghorn roo with maran, white rock, tetra tint, and golden comet hens.
I set 8 on 8/19, 5 on 8/25, and will add 1 more set by mid-end of the week. I have 5 ready to go but I'm trying to get 8-10 before setting them in the 'bator. I think after that all eggs will be going in the fridge again.

Oh yeah, this is my first time incubating chickens. I have had bred leopard geckos and incubated their eggs before, so it's a bit diff but just as exciting, if not more so. I never candled my gecko eggs, you don't really want to move them. I candled the first batch the other night and could see movement in 3 of the 8. The others were very hard to tell what was going on. The 3 are light brown the rest are med-dark brown. I may get another 'bator going by the weekend to seperate out anything that is questionable. I would hate to throw out a good egg just because I'm not sure what's going on in their. But I don't want to risk a bad egg messing up the lot.

Since I only had one fertile egg, and since the timing was just right I threw in a quail egg just for the heck of it to see what happens. I have come to the conclusion that my bantam roo is just too small to fertilize my bigger chickens, even though he gives it a good shot;)

Hehehehe sending good hatching vibes for the single chick and little quail. I have MGB's and a single Black Australorp, besides my Seramas, and I will be interested to see if he can jump up there to make long legged, long necked babies with the huge heifer of an Australorp once she is mature :D I bet he will try his best LOL!

Welcome, Dustin! Sounds like you're right on track with your hatching plans and such! The dark eggs can be a challenge to candle...maybe once they are a bit further along you'll be able to tell something. Great hatching vibes sent your way ^..^
