Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

These are my own eggs all collected same week as set date (last Sunday). Having said that, maybe I should have kept them somewhere more humid before starting incubation. Maybe I should just wait til Sunday check again. I could just play it by ear! Thanks for the thoughts/ideas fisherman s wife!

I am not an expert at all, but an air cell that large seems maybe that egg was not real fresh to start with?  Did you candle when you put  the eggs in originally or is this the first time?  How many days are you at?  If they are all growing large I think I would increase humidity to slow down the air  cell growth.  Perhaps this egg is more porous allowing more air in the egg, thus drying it too fast?  Just my thoughts... Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Feeling a wee bit moronic this morning. I think what I was seeing as the huge air cell is actually the yolk or else I've got veining mid air. It's a good sign when you can laugh at yourself, right?
Btw, yay! I have veining! Only discernible in 3 out of 9, but am still a day early...

Don't feel moronic about anything...hatching is an adventure that you will constantly learn new things each tme. It's a delicate process to replicate nature. YAY...for veins in the eggs and I laugh at myself all the time. They say it's healthy to laugh at least 10 mins a day....I got that covered easy..LOL!

It's Day 8 and all is well. Humidity is at 47% this morning and I candled a few eggs yesterday that are veining nicely. I won't candle anymore now as I think it's best not to handle the eggs too much. Next time will be when I transfer them from the turner to the mesh wire for lockdown on Day 18. It's really exciting to watch for the first pip. That when hatching addiction really kicks in for me

I've had it start on Day 19 but actually break through on Day 20 or 21.

Welcome to the incubating/hatching party....Fisherman Wife, jakewelder, kara and ag29ande. Hope all goes well with your hatches. We are all in this together...LOL! So exciting.

When people talk about candling BEFORE they even start incubating, what are they looking for?

Chickenlickin8, thanks for the words of encouragement! Should I wait until day ten do recandle?
You mentioned not ha n doing them too often. I have marked the ones I know are Ok, but should I candle my questionable ones again in a few days?

yes, you can candle again on Day 10 and candle the questionable eggs around Day 10 or 12..if they are going to develop, they will definitely show something being that the incubation period will be half over at that point.

Candling before incubation is a way to see if the air sac is ok, yolk, etc....especially for shipped eggs. That's why they say to let the eggs rest , pointy side down, for 24 hours or so before puting them in the bator. Hope this info helps!

I like to candle again when I take the turner out at day 18, if there are any blood rings it is a good time to remove them. I don't want any broken messy eggs in there.

It sure is hard to stay away from them. I am like a momma hen, I have a very strong compulsion to pull up my shirt tail and put them in it and cuddle them to me nice and snug. crazy, right.

I know they are better off where they are, so I let them be but the compulsion is there none the less. Gloria Jean

My Millies arrived this morning in perfect condition.
They are in the 'bator along with 3 barnyard surprises.
Little chicklets should arrive around the 15th of Feb.
