Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

Delisha, I just have to tell you...your post way back on page 21( I think) on fermented feed made me look into it! I finally took the time to implement it this week and absolutely love it! The girls eat it like crazy - and when I went to clean the coop this morning (I do it every morning) - no smell! Thank you so much for mentioning it!!! I don't know if I would have known otherwise!

I wish more would do it..it is so good for the birds and it saves money

I just went to the coop and got the biggest egg I have seen in a long time! Not sure if it is the feed....but it happened after the FF! I am looking forward to seeing more positive results from using it! I actually like the smell of it, and it is so easy! Do you give it to you chicks starting day 1? Do you ferment chick starter or something else for the babies? I don't have a mill anywhere close to me so I have to rely on purchased feed.

For those reading and interested... here is a quick read on how to do it...

and a long read - but great info!

Well, its been a crazy hatch for sure, I have three healthy chicks.
One this morning was partially shrink wrapped and crying to get out. I helped the little thing out. A spot on its back stuck and bled a bit. I put plain bacterial ointment on and put it in a separate area in the brooder. The others had wanted to pick at the spot. Now they are huddled next to it . The box its in is clear. They will be ready to welcome it in their area tomorrow when its all fluffy. 4 total chicks. I never would have believed that three days ago.
My internet service is out so I am using my daughters today for a bit. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Quote: You will notice larger eggs, better egg flavor, better egg laying, healthier chickens, shiner feathers, lower food cost.
I start my babys day one. I FF a small amount(they eat so little) Chicks are attracted to pecking sounds so you have to sprinkle dry all over and on top of it and under it. I mix the FF with dry for the first week. I use Organic chick start and grow non medicated.

Glad you have 4..you thought you were going to have non..huge improvement!! Congrats for frozen shipped eggs that is wonderful!

I have 7 silkies out!! I have 2 eggs left doing nothing. Not sure they are viable. I will check them tomorrow when I take the lil guys out if I do not see any more pips

I have 19 Black Copper Marans and 10 Blue Copper Marans eggs in the incubator right now. These will be my first Marans I'm so excited.
They were put into the incubator on Feb. 28th and should be due around March, 22.
I've never had trouble hatching chicken, quail, and even Bearded dragons in my incubator, but I've never paid that much for eggs either. So, I've got my fingers crossed. :)

I'm not new here. I just couldn't remember my password, and evidently I used a different email address too, because I couldn't get the password reset sent to me. I was Frogsong, now I'm Frogsong63. :)

Thanks Delisha! I had started mixing FF with my silkie babies food to get them used to it, and they went for it right away - so I will do the same for the ones that hatch this next go around (Catdance babies!). Anxious to see your new chicks!!

Welcome Frogsong! I will enjoy tracking your progress on Maran eggs! Just said to my husband this morning how all we need now is dark brown eggs! We have the other colors!
