In all, not bad so far! I will keep everyone posted. Got 2 pics attached here, but if you look on youtube find the handle suzanneshawesq, it's the very first one hatching. Almost 10 minutes but a great video!

There was so much care in wrapping these eggs! They are various shades of very light brown. Great variety - Black, White, Porcelain, Lavender, Splash, Buff, Partridge! I was taking eggs from my own hens to add to them...then realized I don't need any more right now...and want to wait until I have broodies as there is an ultimate space number!!! Honestly, I can't help myself...I think I need intervention!!

Good morning Justine, I have been reading up on sexing chickens - there seems to be a lot of debate on it! How do you sex yours? Feathers, vent, patterning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My BSLs are easy, it's the RIR that I've no clue on...

HI Melinda, I have done pretty good with the wing feather method when the chicks are two or three days old. If the chicks are older than that...like mine that are approaching 3 weeks, you should be able to tell by the comb size on RIR, the male should be considerably larger than a pullet especially by 5 to 6 weeks. Plus they stand taller and have bigger feet. I have sexed my Black Australorp and Lavender Orps by the comb size at 3 weeks with good success.

Hope this info helps. How old are yours now? Take a pic and PM me if you like.

Thanks! 2 dozen beautiful eggs you have there....how EGG-citing...LOL! They are larger than I thought they would be. I envisioned bantam size eggs for silkies. You definitely need an intervention. Can't wait to see your hatch results!!!

How are the first silkie babies doing?

First silkie babies are doing well! They are in that post fuzz pre big girl feather age (like Jr. High!) Just look funny...but they are going to be adorable! I did lose one at 12 days that just did not thrive. Broke my heart - it was my favorite, but just did not grow. I cared for it practically around the clock, started them on corid, hand fed, everything I could think of, but sadly it didn't make it. The others are growing way to fast...and so funny! I am really enjoying them!

These Catdance eggs overall are larger than the other ones I previously hatched. They are certainly smaller then regular eggs, but larger than I expected! I think that is good! I am running the bator now, and everything seems good, so I plan to put them in late tonight or early in the morning! All the aircells were intact! Amazing!
