I do not hatch with that high of humidity, but, many do and do it successfully. I live in a humid climate. I should never assume others live in the same type of environment. If you are dry, you need 70% at hatch sometimes.

This might help with more questions..from any one who has humidity or temp questions. or any type of hatching questions.

I used to raise chickens when younger and remember learning the hard way that hatching while the heat is on on the house you need high humidity due to having electric heat which tends to be really dry. However it is super humid in the summer so not needed as much. Thank you for the concern though I love how everyone on here strives to do what they can to make sure everyone gets the help and support they need. The chicks with distended bellys seem to be doing much better. Thanks again!

Well we ended up with 6 chicks hatched, one that has done nothing so far not sure it will but will give it a day or two, and one little one that pipped the wrong end of the shell which caused a bleed that dried and closed up its air hole it pipped I opened it back up by just using warm water and a q-tip but it was too late we lost it. Upon opening it up I also noticed that it had not yet absorbed everything and when it bled there was A LOT of blood inside the egg. Daughter is happy with what we got and for our first ever shipped eggs not too bad!

That is great! Congratulations!! Enjoy those fluffy butts! They grow so fast - you will be looking to hatch more before you know it!

Oh we have a few barred rock eggs out of out backyard flock cooking now ready to pop next week lol. But I have a feeling you may be right as far as maybe getting some more bantam eggs to hatch mwahaha lol. I forgot how addicting it can be but man the 21 days kills me.

Hahaha! I know, the 9 months incubating my kids did not seem as long as the 21 days incubating the eggs!!! OK, except maybe the last month

Exactly I couldn't have said it better myself. I will get some fluffy butt pics taken and up in the next couple days have been a little under the weather and have a couple commitments this weekend.

Greetings to all of you good and knowledgeable people. I posted this in the "Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator" thread, but wanted to know what your opinions are as well -

I am getting my eggs to hatch in 2 days, so I fired up the mini and have had it going since last night. I put my thermometer/hygrometer in it as well so I can monitor the humidity.

Here's the questions: the temperature on the mini is 99.5, it goes up to 99.6 occasionally, which I know is fine; but my thermometer/hygrometer is reading the temp at 98.5 (F) and the hygrometer fluctuates between 49% and 53%. I filled the one chamber as the directions said......so should I just trust my Brinsea Mini on the temperature it reads or the temp on mine?
Should I try to do more with the humidity or leave it alone?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Calibrate your thermometer..and retry. If it is still off, go with the re-calibrated thermometer..leave the humidity alone for now. If you end up raising the heat..the humidity should go down a little bit.

Hey delisha -

After messing with my temp/hygrometer, I got a bit flustered and was digging around for the small instructions that came with it. I thought it may give me a clue right? Well I feel dumb. The MAX temp it will display is 98.8, and since it was displaying 98.5 before, it must be spot on with the mini....so if the temp is spot on, the humidity must be fine as well.....DUH
