Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

WI is definitely frozen tundra...brrr! Melinda would be North East and I guess I'm South East here in FL....definitely a melting pot of people here! Everyone is from somewhere else. Is it like that in CA? I was out in Washington State til 10 yrs ago! I love FL but hubby my get a tugboat job in TX...never lived there...so then I would be mid west?

I don't think I can participate in the egg swap......I don't have a roo :(   Do all of you have roos? I'm in a neighborhood so I can't have one...hens only. I could order eggs on ebay and ship them to all of you....LOL!!!! Is that cheating??? LOL! :lau

I need to get a few acres so I can have 10 coops, 100 chickens and non stop incubating eggs.......CHICKENS, CHICKENS...ALL the time!! :weee

Darn, maybe you could find a rent-a-roo?:lol
You' think there'd be a need for that, hmmmm.
I'm in a neighborhood too, but zoned rural, and have a surprise roo from my "pullets only" purchase. I did check with the neighbors once she started crowing and I finally admitted that she was in fact a he... They think its quaint (so far). Maybe you can have Roos in TX!

Don't fret none, now Miss. Justine, ma'am. We'll just ponder this un for a spell & get back to y'all. How's my TX accent working? Think I'd better stick to plain old English:p

Good night all!

Hey there! What kind of eggs did you set? Good luck! I too kept my questionable/clear ones in just in case! Our hatch dates are fairly close; I set mine on Sunday a week ago. Wyandottes here:)

My eggs are from Easter Eggers....I love their different colored eggs!!

I will be candling again tomorrow night (day 10) and will determine what stays and what goes....

Awww, nice. That is one of my goals! A colorful egg basket! I purchased two Aracauna chicks March 4th, they are so cute. Now I'll just have to wait to see if they'll lay blue eggs:)
Are you hatching your own eggs or did you purchase them? I have yet to buy shipped eggs for fear of frozen egglets... Good luck tonight.

BTW , my flock (as expected) really digs the ferm. feed and the chicks do too. Yay! The babies are so fussy, I was worried they wouldn't like it. I top off their ff with some sprouted lentils and voila breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. I must admit that I had way too much in my trial bowl and my ff expanded more than anticipated, making a slurpy mess on the counter. Oops :D. So if you haven't tried this yet, make sure your container is twice the size of the feed you expect to put into it - both for ease of stirring and expansion; I learned the hard way. Hehehehe

I'm hatching the eggs. Plus I picked up 3 chicks from Pozees in February that are 6 weeks old......they have grown into monsters already! LOL! One blue andalusian, one araucana and one BR that I think is a banty because she is soooo much smaller than the other two, but she's the boss for sure!

I haven't tried the FF, but I haven't had the need to either (knock on wood). I do put acv in their water and once or twice a week I give them some yogurt. I may try it for the hatchlings though.

Right now the girls get chick starter with 18% crumbles. I've had them all outside when it's really nice for maybe 30 minutes and they loved it.

Shipped eggs just scare me all the way around. I've heard such horror stories. Can't afford to lose the $$.

Getting busy this weekend (if it doesn't rain!!) starting on the coop and the pen for the girls!!

I finally heard from Hazel's owners too (Hazel the disable chicken in Falcon, she has a lame right foot, but healthy otherwise and is laying eggs) if I can get things going here quickly enough and before someone else takes her I'll have her as well...she's an australorp....the main thing is she gets a home. I will put her with the new babies and they won't pick on her like her current sisters do!

Good night all!

What breed of roo do you have? Your TX accent cracks me up Melinda! Perfect...LOL! My chicks like to FF and it was easy to make. Just have to keep up with the adding new food and water mixture. How often are you adding ACV?

not hard core!! I sell my chickens for food and eggs. Not only is my chickens for fun, they pay for themselves. My hobby has to put food on the table one way or another.

That's great Vicki! So you hatch year round, right? How many coops do you have? At what age do you sell them for meat or eggs? When I post chicks on craigslist they sell so fast! It amazes me. I wish I had the time and space to hatch and raise all the time. Between work, family and everything, we are always on the go. We like the fresh eggs and knowing they came from our own small coop of chickens. Plus, we get enough eggs that I give eggs to family and then sell eggs to co-workers and neighbors. Everyone loves the taste of fresh eggs!

My roo is a jRhode Island Red ( hatchery, not heritage). Hamlet's very handsome; to me anyway:p I'm sure he's just run of the mill, but he's spiffy in my eyes;) beautiful green tail feathers.
He likes to do a tap dance whenever I enter the coop. I have explained to him (a number of times now) that I am already taken and have no intention of submitting to his cocky overtures. I expect more than a dried up mealworm as an enticement anyway, thank you very much!
Men, they're all alike...
Af far as the ff, I only added the ACV the very first time. Should I continue adding it? It still smells sour ish. Hmmm. It still makes bubbles after I add new feed and let it sit for a while. I'm thinking that means my ACV is still active. I bet we could add yeast too. Maybe nutritional yeast?
Any opinions?

Tomorrow is day 14, candling first thing!
Good night!
