Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

Well today is day 21!  7 of my 13 BLRW eggs I had shipped that were lost in the mail were duds.  A couple candled funny so I left them in there.  Of course all 6 of my home grown ones seem to be fine.  I haven't hatched chicks in 20 years so I'm going by instinct alone.  I'm glad I have to work today or I would be sitting there staring at them all day long.  I'll keep ya'll updated.

Good luck!! :)

Woke up to a dozen beautiful catdance babies! :love There are at least 2 more pipped eggs. Between babies and broken eggs shells it is a bit crazy in there for the remaining eggs. Do you guys take the dried babies out or leave them in? I don't want to risk losing anybody who is pipped but I have the two that hatched day 19 who are dry and ready to go. Most the others will be dry by this afternoon.

Good luck GG! Haven't tried shipped eggs yet. I have been fortunate to find local sellers (although I really want Marans eggs and haven't found those around here). How many pips?

Wow! great hatch:ya... sounds like you're way busy with garden, homeschholing AND baby chicks, but post some pix when you can! I think you mentioned these Catdance eggs were bigger than from other sources. Are the chicks bigger too? My own are still pullets - will their chicks be smaller compared to established hen chicks? hmmm, this warrants looking into.
btw, post pix!;)

I had so few hatch the first time, I left them all in to dry off together. But you've got lots. Maybe take out the really dry ones. i've heard of chicks accidentally poking other babies as they try to emerge from their shells & hurting them.... but have no experience with that. I'll bet Vicki and Justine would have a good answer on that front.
Great Hatching!

That is an awesome hatch. Congrats!! I usually take the babies out quickly when they are half dry so they don't disturb all the remaining eggs, rolling them around all over the place. Into a warm brooder to finish drying off and they will be fine. Can't wait to see pics!! We want PICS!!! LOL!!

chickenlickin8 I am so jealous here in Ohio we had freezing rain with icing that lead to a 2 hr school delay for the kids this morning and were looking at really windy and 38 degrees tomorrow I am so ready for spring!

Sounds really chilly and wintery for March up there....brrrrr! Hope Spring comes soon there! Come take a trip to FL and thaw out!! It's going to be in the 50s tonight...brrr.....LOL! We are spoiled.
I am so envious of you! My little meyer lemon tree has some buds on it! It's only a baby, so they'll probably just fall off, but that's OK. I would love to have your climate! I have blackberries, raspberries and a lonely blueberry bush... so at least I get some fruits! But I LOVE citrus!
Yep, we are due to get 10-16 inches or some such nonsense - so ready to be warm. The chickens have been happily scratching outside and my glories of the snow are blooming - NO MORE SNOW:he

I see FW Catdance babies are hatching! YAY

Melinda, you will be going into PIP watch soon.... are you ready? How much snow do you have right now? I have a Meyer lemon tree and a Dancy tangerine tree covered with blooms. I'll have to ship you some citrus later in the year.

I hope to get to actually see some come out of their shells this time! I AM ready! I've never seen Wyandottes in person... Can't wait for them to pip, unzip, and come out:D
Snow, tooooooo much snow! There was some drifting and blowing - so hard to be precise but it was up to my knees when I went out to help shovel out the car. So I'd guess 16 inches. Today is beautifully sunny, I hope the snow goes away soon.
Well, if you ever have too much citrus, by all means send some up! Maybe I could send you a lovely rooster

Depending on humidity and temp in the incubator, you might be able to take a few dry ones out quickly. A sharp drop in either one is not good during this important stage so make it quick.

I am so excited for you..I am looking forward to pictures!
