Severe pasty butt

Nice work rescuing them! Seems like you've done a good job so far!
Unfortunately, even rescuing dying chicks completes the circle. Everyone who buys chicks from TSC is support the sale of chicks. Every dollar they make will influence he purchase of chicks next year, which will result in more, stressed, trampled, pasty, chicks who may not make it. Not saying you shouldn't have rescued them, I would have done the exact same thing. It's just a bummer. There should be a petition against TSC selling chicks. Not sure if it would make a difference, but it may at least raise awareness, and decrease the chick sales since petitions tend to get around.
Following! Fantastic job with these babies!

Agreed. We've done the same thing over here, rescuing them, but often it does support the business. Though, it helps if maybe you buy all your brooder supplies elsewhere, same with feed. Because that all adds up to more than the chicks themselves. ☺️

I know 😭😭😭😭 I’ve done so much work with puppy mills, bettas in places like Walmart, etc and it’s so hard to feel hypocritical. I keep hearing myself say I’m just fuelling the fire, but I couldn’t let them die. Too soft hearted. Thank you for the kind words and reminder 💕

Exactly! I don't support TSC when I don't have to. Usually go to a local feed store, and buy chicks from a local feed store if necessary. I find small business tend to treat the chicks much better. The area is always larger, cleaner, and they don't have as many.

I feel ya! Again, if I was in your situation I would have done the exact same thing. You can't just let them die. 😢 No problem, I think doing what we can is important. if you don't buy anything but those chicks, its probably not making a huge difference.

We're planning to go back to the local Wilco and buy their pasty chicks. We bought everything beforehand - feed, a replacement heat bulb, (the one we've been using for years conveniently crapped out the minute it was plugged in to test it) and little roost bars. The only actual money going into Wilco are the $3-$6 chicks.

I don't think that is going to cause any issues. If your only spending a few dollars, thats hardly an influence at all. I think they make most of their money on the brooder supplies, chicken coops, etc, for those impulse chicken buyers who buy everything right there.

Agreed. That's a mistake we made last time - we made an impulse buy of 4 pasty butt chicks. We walked in to buy feed for our hens because our little supply store was closed - and having hearts three sizes too big, when we saw those poor plugged up babies, we couldn't resist. We bought a bag of feed for the hens and a bag of feed for them, and that was about 40$ all together. The chicks added up to about 12$.
It's better to buy any supplies ahead of time - from someone else, too.

Exaclty. I like to get all of my supplies from my local feed store. They have my favorite feed and rabbit supplies too, so its convenient. :)
