We have a hen that got pecked on over night. She has a pretty severe head wound that is to the bone with exposed tendon. I have cleaned it with Vetricyn Poultry and applied Silver Honey ointment. She is isolated in our home for the next couple days so I can monitor closely. Then we will keep her in a crate with the flock to reintegrate. She’s is acting perky, has drank some electrolyte water and eaten a little. The wound gets dried out fairly quickly (a couple hours) even with the ointment. Is there anything else I can do to help her? She’s so sweet, we are trying our best to save her.

I would apply the silver honey more often or alternate with plain neosporin triple antibiotic ointment. Was she attacked by other hens or a rooster trying to mount her? Is she low in the pecking order? She will recover from this injury with care, and I hope that she does well.
